mmm sounds good. I would make a nice coleslaw with minced jalapenos. Can make some Jasmine rice w/ black beans too

Serve it over a bed of white rice, or if you're cutting carbs a vegetable like asparagus...

Thank goodness Migs! What if the only rice I have is brown rice...how would I doctor that up? I don't have any slaw fixings here.

I've seen that "Weird Foods" show. I'm kinda squeamish about things, I just couldn't bring myself to eat tarantula legs, crickets, grubs, monkeys...EEEEEEWWWWW... ..

but i'm squeamish about my food also..grow up how i did and see animals getting their heads cut off on a weekly basis and you'd be too..
anyhow....what always surprises me is that he seems to enjoy every little disgusting thing he samples.. wish i ws like that..can ya imagine ..he prolly feels like i do in a book store..i'm thinking " sooo much uncharted thought" and he is thinking " so much uncharted taste"..it must be an exciting feeling..

Couldn't agree more. I went to dinner once on vacation, and the place had a piglet with an apple[?] in it's mouth sitting there on the buffett table all 'done up'. People were "ohhh and aweing" over it. We were so grossed out we left and said forget dinner.

my girlfriend went on a business trip to China. in this restaurant, they sat at a circular table with a whole in the middle. She later found out what the whole was for. Before long... a cage emerged. :-X

I've only had it a few times, too many health risks, but if done right, steak tartare is amazing. Raw flesh of cow is delicious. :D

I know, especially when they think it's going to be steak with tartar sauce blobbed on top. Lol. But raw flesh of cow digests in two hours versus the usual 10 for cooked meat and it really is amazing if done right. But, with today's health risks, it isn't worth it to chance some debilitating nerve disease for a few moments of pleasure. Raw egg, plus raw meat... :-\
After reading this book... it's getting harder to eat meat of any kind, cooked or not.

I was having lunch in Mövenpick with someone who ordered that, ...and after she ordered it, I asked her if she knew what it was, ...well she got all pissy and arrogant on me, so I just smiled and told her I hope she enjoys her meal. Who orders steak tartar well done except someone who doesn't know what it is? I almost busted a gut keeping the laughter in when it arrived. Her eyes nearly fell out of her head, ...but she was determined to put on a brave face, and not to give any of us the satisfaction... so she ate it anyway. That was the best part. Every so often, I'd enthusuastically asked her, how's your steak tartar? ;D She'd say "It's wonderful" then take another bite. The poor thing almost turned green trying to finish it. When she excused herself to use the restroom, we had the waitor take her plate away figuring she had endured enough punishment. When she came back to the table, she had the absolute audacity to make a huge fuss that we had allowed the waitor to take her plate when she wasn't finished with it just yet. We had been there 2 hours, everyone else had long finished eating and she had barely taken 3 bites. Of course she was finished. Talk about looking a gift horse in the mouth! The waitor who had witnessed her hissy fit when we had ordered, as well as her stubborn refusal to admit she made a mistake, overheard this new complaint, and decided to have a little fun with her. He profusely apologized for taking the plate and insisted he would have the chef make up a fresh batch for her. ;D Immediately an expression came across her face resembling stark raving terror! that's when we lost it... couldn't keep the laughter in after that. ;D
ps - It took her 2 weeks to admit she thought it would be a steak with tartar sauce.

you could do it the same way. i might add some of the bean liquid to the rice and cook it that way to infuse more flavor. then add some cilantro at the end to perk up the flavor

Lol. I've had exactly the same experience. I didn't bother mentioning that tartar sauce is usually only eaten with seafood, not steak. ;D
I almost never see it on menus anywhere. Can you really still get it at Mövenpick today...? :o

I couldn't say. I haven't been to a Mövenpick in years. There was one a few blocks away in Yorkville when I lived at Bay / Bloor, and there was another downtown a few blocks away from my place at Harbourfront, but I haven't entered one in years. I would think the emergence of Mad Cow Disease might put a bit of a crimp in the amount of orders they got for it tho.
