Wild workout stuff!
Pretty cool stuff. I saw this on ironage. It’s called yamakasi or displacement as the French have named it. A range of gymnastic and strength/endurance type things. The third link is a clip from a French film staring the originators.

Hell yeah! That stuff always facinated me.
I once scaled the inside atrium of a 6 story apt. building in college, drunk of course. No backflip at the end.

DAMN.

Parkour aka Free-running is fucking sweet.
David Belle does some crazy parkour in DISTRICT 13, a French action movie that came out about a year ago.
I've never heard of it as yamakasi or whatever but the best parkour video i've seen is called "EVOLUTION" try and find it on google, you'll be amazed.
-
for sure.... that is really cool!
-
It all comes from Parkour which was "invented" by David Belle. It was actually an adaptation of training that his father received during the Vietnam war.

Are there any training schools or camps out there that teach the stuff. I mean at an old man -- beginner level? ;D

Sort of, but not in the U.S. It was originally based in France (obviously, since Belle's from France) and has spread to Japan and across Europe but most groups are pretty informal. Also, belle has left the group he started and already split with Sebastien Foucan (the guy he started Parkour with and who was in Casino Royale). So I believe he's no longer running the organization. Sebastien started "Free Running" and I believe he's left that as well but may be running something else now.
As for doing it in the U.S., your best bet is to download one of the youtube videos that shows people doing the diff. exercises and just find a good park to try it yourself. That's really how most of these kids learn it.
NOTE: One other thing. When you're learning the move, make everything a regression. This is the best way to learn this stuff. For example, if you want to be able to flip off a wall in a cartwheel-kick, you'd do this:
1. Learn to do a cartwheel in both directions
2. Learn to do a cartwheel off a 1-foot high block
3. Learn to do a 1-handed cartwheel off a 1-foot-high block (with leading hand)
4. Learn to do a 1-handed cartwheel off a 1-foot-high block (with back hand)
5. Learn to do a cartwheel, no handed, off 1-foot high block
So you've regressed the move and learned it in parts. You'll do that with everything you see them do, and then it gets a LOT easier to learn.

Man that was cool.
Very good balnce and agility.
If the U.S. goverment was smart the would get some of these guys and use them for special opps

Aren't these the guys who attacked Flex and cost him an Olympia title?
-
Of course the French invented this.
Any type of hostility and the French scramble out of harms way by any means necessary. I believe this training goes back to WWII.

It's all fun and games till someone breaks an ankle. Those countries need better public transportation, those kids are probably dead tired by the time they get to work.

Who says you can't use it to approach an enemy faster than they'd expect?

The French haven't approached an enemy since the Napoleonic Era.

Great athlete. Terrible moustache and haircut. >:(
-
imagine this guy on a foot pursuit with the police

What really blows me away is that in one of the videos, it shows one guy clearing a fence that was taller than him, anyone with that kind of vertical is a damn near automatic entry into the NFL........I swear it looked like a at least a 60" vertical :o!!

Pretty badass !!! Reminds me of the Black guy in the beginning of the James Bond movie " Casino Royale " ... simply amazing !

That's because he trained under David Belle and later created "free running" which is basically the same as "Parkour" Apparently Belle is suing Sebastien Foucan for trying to rip off his creation.

I know people are making it sound like the French invented this, but I gotta tell ya Jackie Chan was doing it in the movies back in the early 80's and before. Just not as these guys do it. These guys are unreal and I love watching every minute of it and it would be great if someone marketed it in a way to make it an actual sport or competition where huge prize money is available. It is just awesome to watch. I would pick being able to do what they do over benching 700 any day.

I wonder if those guys have some kind of special sneakers that gives them extra spring. Sure seemed that way.

Yeah I also wonder about the long term injury/joint stress.
