Title: How I was probably tricked into supporting the war
Post by: Old_Rooster on April 19, 2007, 12:13:12 PM
So its possible I was tricked into supporting this war in Iraq.
Wasn't just Bush.  Clinton always talked about how Iraq had WMD and was an imminent danger and
remember i have now admitted i liked Bill Clinton.  I think he was possibly the wisest president we have
had in the last 30 years other than Reagan.  Then Bush began talking how they had WMD.
I don't think Bush lied, I truly think he believed that.  If this story was cooked up anywhere I think it was
at the Pentagon and possibly they were told to cook up the story by Cheney.  I've never like Cheyney, never
understood why Bush chose him to run as his VP.   So maybe the WMD was cooked up at the white house, all bush
had to go by was the evidence he was presented and after 9/11, i did agree if you were a danger to us, we should
take you out.  Now add to it that Saddam kept tossing out inspectors and then allowing them back in a month later and
that even more convinced me that he was moving the WMD before allowing inspectors back in to his country.

I never much followed politics so perhaps i was a gullible goose that got pulled in.
Another reason i don't think bush knew if all this was cooked up is because i don't think any president in
his first term would risk his presidency and start a war on a lie knowing he was doing it.

and i'm not still totally sure Iraq really never had WMD, don't think we will ever know.

But hey, 9/11 happened and perhaps i am a redneck cowboy and was ready to whip the shit out of anybody because of
9/11.  I've always been the type before someone hit me, I'd get the first lick in if i thought a fight was gonna happen anyway.
But I supported the war, based on evidence i heard, tons of democrats did also but one thing about me, i don't tuck tail and run.  We are there now, we best try to get the damn job done instead of running, turning the country over to terrorists and appearing weak before the world.

And as i've said before, if somewhere behind closed doors in some mystery government building, our leaders figured we need to attack someone just to display our military might......or if they knew if we didn't take iraq out now they would be a problem later on...well after 9/11  i could have accepted that also.

anyway......i am a redneck cowboy.  but i'm cute as fuck sometimes.

And you didn't think it suspicious that the administration allowed the Saudis and members of the Bin Laden family to fly out of the US when all other air traffic was grounded nationwide?

Fools!  A population that tolerates that deserves what it gets.  Bah!

Doom disapproves.

Bin Laden is estranged from his family and from Saudi Arabia, which revoked his citizenship in the early 1990s after he was caught smuggling weapons from Yemen.

I was under the impression that much of the financial backing for the terrorism we're fighting is Saudi money.

I agree with your first sentiment but not so sure about the second. There has to be some way to combat such machinations.

You know, they need us to buy their oil just like we need them to supply the oil. That relationship works both ways.

They have the bigger advantage, we can't do without the oil......oil makes the world go round.
they could have a stale mate with us and i'm sure we would have to cave first.

I'd prefer to access Canada's resources before destroying Alaska.

I wonder if Jag would mind if we went up there and took control?

A paki general wired $100,000 to Muhammed Atta (lead hijacker) 3 days before 9/11.

That same genereal had breakfast with a 9/11 commissioner and a future CIA chief.
On the morning of September 11th.

All kidding aside... this is the real reason why the US will never invade Canada...

President George Bush was in the Oval Office wondering which country to invade next, when his telephone rang.

"Hallo, President Bush" a heavily accented voice said. This is Archie, up 'ere at the Harp Seal Pub in Badger's Cove, Newfoundland, Canada ey? I am callin' to tells ya dat we are officially declaring war on you ey!"

"Well Archie," George replied, "This is indeed important news! How big is your army?"

"Right now," said Archie, after a moments calculation "there is myself, me cousin Harold, me next-door-neighbor Mick, and the whole dart team from the pub. That makes eight!"

George paused. "I must tell you Archie, that I have one million men in my army waiting to move on my command."

"Holy jeez," said Archie. "I'll have ta call ya back!"

Sure enough, the next day, Archie called again. "Mr. Bush, the war is still on! We have managed to acquire some infantry equipment!"

"And what equipment would that be Archie?" George asked.

"Well sir, we have two combines, a bulldozer, and Harry's farm tractor."

President Bush sighed. "I must tell you Archie, that I have 16,000 tanks and 14,000 armoured personnel carriers. Also I've increased my army to one and a half million since we last spoke."

"Lard T'underin' Jaysus, bye", said Archie, "I'll be getting back to ya."

Sure enough, Archie rang again the next day. "President Bush, the war is still on! We have managed to git ourselves airborne! We up an' modified Harrigan's ultra-light wit a couple of shotguns in the****it, and four byes from the Legion have joined us as well!"

George was silent for a minute then cleared his throat. "I must tell you Archie that I have 10,000 bombers and 20,000 fighter planes. My military complex is surrounded by laser-guided, surface-to-air missile sites. And since we last spoke, I've increased my army to TWO MILLION!"

"Jeysus, Mary and Joseph," said Archie,"I'll have ta call youse back."

Sure enough, Archie called again the next day. "President Bush! I am sorry to have to tell you dat we have had to call off dis'ere war."

"I'm sorry to hear that" said George. "Why the sudden change of heart?"

"Well, sir," said Archie, "we've all sat ourselves down and had a long chat over a bunch of pints, and come to realize dat dere's no way we can feed two million prisoners."

CANADIAN CONFIDENCE CANNOT BE SHAKEN!

jaguar,

It's with extreme exaggerations like these you repeatedly manages to come across as a political blowhard, an idiot, and someone who can't be considered in a serious conversation.

You do your side of the argument more harm than good.
