I have seen alot of debate on the reported number of civilian deaths in Iraq:
http://www.thenation.com/doc/20050801/cortright
From 1 may 2003-mid 2004, the war had accounted for 24,000 deaths.
http://www.globalpolicy.org/security/issues/iraq/attack/consequences/2006/0309deathtoll.htm
In 2005 there were 13,000 deaths
http://pcrproject.com/blog/2007/01/17/un-iraq-death-toll/
In 2006, the death toll was 34,000 plus
That comes to 71,000. Was there 380,000 since January?

While the numbers are not as bad as 350K... they might be .....i know they report that crap with alot of fuzzy math and basically BS accounting based on what constitutes a reportable death.

Don't you find it disturbing when someone uses a number like 650,000 to criticize the war?
-
It all depends on what is said...attacking the war because they hate the idea and think we should be killing terrorists instead of being invloved in a civil war is one thing...hating my country just to hate is another.

I went through this with BRUCE here a few months ago.
The way they figured the 600k was grossly inaccurate. they used polls to estimate it.
-
Neither side will get it right..I know we didn't kill alot rolling in.....but now.... ???

I remember that thread, whatever happened to BRUCE? He was always a spark for conversation.
I don't think we'll ever get a completely accurate number of deaths. Perhaps within areas of Baghdad it might be feasible to take an accurate count but outside of those certain areas I don't think it's possible.
-
They play with the numbers so it doesn't seem so bad..its not a Bush problem its how its always done no matter who's fighting..but especially now with the advent of poltical correctness and societies views on war.

what's hilarious is that those on the neotaint bus will say "50,000 dead civilians" is no big deal.
Shit, imagine a pile of 50 dead people. It'd be the size of a large truck. Now picture 1000 of those trucks in a row. holy crap, that is a terrible thing. what a mess it be. can't leave, can't stay. wow.

But this is a "just cause". ::)

But this is a "just cause". ::)
and what would you propose we do? Let me guess, "never have gone in the first place". Ok, is there anyone that doesn't admit that? So now what do you say we do from here out?
-
But this is a "just cause". ::)
It's gonna be the Liberals like "pedo Enigma" who will say that OUR troops caused the civilian deaths without taking into consideration the enemy are strapping bombs on themselves and purposely placing themselves in civilian populations!

Yea but we made those IEDS and detonated them. ::) We also made the suicide bombers run into crowded areas with 50-100 people in there. ::) The libs who all were behind the war now turn around because it wasn't over in a day. The American people cannot deal with a loss of any life, period. I have said that before and I stand by it. Even if we only lost 100 people, the American people would be outraged with the likes of Ms. Shehan, whose son signed up for a second tour. This is why people like Blackwaters are so good because they don't care if they die, Americans don't know about them and they can ACTUALLY DO THE JOB.

I am going to start another MA program and am going to do my thesis on the rise of the contractors..its very interesting. Its Blackwater bro :P

The way they figured the 600k was grossly inaccurate. they used polls to estimate it.
It was a survey of random houses across Iraq, "by eight Iraqi physicians organized through Mustansiriya University in Baghdad and overseen by epidemiologists at Johns Hopkins University's Bloomberg School of Public Health.. They visited 1,849 randomly selected households that had an average of seven members each. One person in each household was asked about deaths in the 14 months before the invasion and in the period after.
The interviewers asked for death certificates 87 percent of the time; when they did, more than 90 percent of households produced certificates.
According to the survey results, Iraq's mortality rate in the year before the invasion was 5.5 deaths per 1,000 people; in the post-invasion period it was 13.3 deaths per 1,000 people per year. The difference between these rates was used to calculate "excess deaths."
Of the 629 deaths reported, 87 percent occurred after the invasion. A little more than 75 percent of the dead were men, with a greater male preponderance after the invasion. For violent post-invasion deaths, the male-to-female ratio was 10-to-1, with most victims between 15 and 44 years old.
Gunshot wounds caused 56 percent of violent deaths, with car bombs and other explosions causing 14 percent, according to the survey results. Of the violent deaths that occurred after the invasion, 31 percent were caused by coalition forces or airstrikes, the respondents said.
Burnham said that the estimate of Iraq's pre-invasion death rate -- 5.5 deaths per 1,000 people -- found in both of the Hopkins surveys was roughly the same estimate used by the CIA and the U.S. Census Bureau. He said he believes that attests to the accuracy of his team's results."

Thanks. I wish every neotaint here had to sit with his children (who he teaches that this war is great and those losses are acceptable). They can set up lawn chairs and get some popcorn and chat about school and the weather as the 1000 trucks of dead bodies drive past their home. They can just sit in the front yard and watch. And in the beginning, it would be ol' dad talking about the need for freedom as he tries to keep his shocked child distracted from the trucks of bodies moving by at the paradelike pace. After an hour or two, dad's voice would hurt and they could just sit there quietly as the stacks of bodies drove by.
Perhaps we can get 3,333 flag draped caskets to finish the night off. Kind of a grand finale/moneyshot for those who love this war.
