Title: UFC 73 fights & rumours
Post by: Scimowser on April 29, 2007, 01:48:45 PM
so far there are 3 confirmed matches, 2 of which are title matches:

Middleweight Championship:  Anderson Silva vs.  Nathan Marquardt

Light Heavyweight:  Tito Ortiz vs.  Rashad Evans

Lightweight Championship:  Sean Sherk vs. Hermes Franca

Big Nog is rumoured to be debuting against Brandon Vera, in what will surely be one of the UFC's  best fights in modern years (there havent been that many good ones IMO). I fancy Nog to take this by submission in round 2 if it goes ahead

Jorge Gurgel is supposedly confirmed also but doesnt yet have an opponent

From what I understood, UFC 73 is going to be the first HBO show as well.

Bad news for boxing.   :D

I agree.  I also think that the Delahoya/Mayweather fight will also play a large role in boxings near future.  This is fight is easily boxing's biggest fight in a while, and with the threat of MMA overtaking boxing in terms of popularity, the outcome of the fight may either breathe new life in boxing, or help push MMA one step closer.  If the fight is a boring 12 round mayweather decision (likely) it will definately be another setback for boxing since this fight will be a PPV powerhouse in terms of buys.  I personally like both so I don't care.

Justin Mccully is also rumored to be a potential opponent fro Big Nog, I would rather see him fight "the Truth" though.
