Title: Questions on working as personal trainer
Post by: donrhummy on May 03, 2007, 02:02:09 PM
I have a number of questions on what you need to do as a personal trainer to get clients.

* Do most gyms make you find clients or do they find them for you?
* How long does it take to find a base of clients? (enough for 20-35 hrs/wk)
* Do you usually get a base salary? Benefits?
* (If you do have to get clients yourself) Do you constantly have to go up to people or do
   they usually come to you?
* Does the gym take a cut of your hourly pay even if you find the clients? How much?
* Do you choose how much to charge per hour? Does the gym set it?
* Do you have to take out insurance or do the gyms provide that?

I know it's a lot of questions but any help you can all give would be great! :)

if you live in nyc or li or any rich area the trend is you go to clients homes, you tell them what machines to get and u go there to train them, thats where real money is, the guys thou or girls who do this look fucking amazing and these people like paying for the best, if you are a avg looking guy you have no choice but to work in a gym and bank on them getting you clients, salary and benifits? forget that

50/50 spilt with the gym
gym sets a "base" price per hour which you are free to "work with"

Go to school to be a ultrasound tech or a physical therapist.  Unless you are 1 in a million you will end up doing personal training on the side while you work 40 hours/week at Applebees.

HAHAHAHAHAH, good stuff.

Seriously, I have made a successful career at this along with many of my employees and friends.  Go to the Business and Info board and look over a few threads to see how it's done, all of these questions have been answered.

Bottom line is:  The most successful trainers aren't neccessary the best trainers but they are usually the best salespeople.

Or the best therapists/listeners.

I'm well beyond the scale of a physical therapist, ultra sound tech or even most Chiros!

Easily believable.

The pay scale for a trainer simply depends on the marketability, experience and ability of them.
