great tone, awesome build quality... super reliable.. only real drawback is the weight.
The brands I have listed are ones I have personally used.

thanks man.
I've been playing thru a comparatively weak Hartke:
http://www.grabcart.com/product/ele/vintage/1566213
It's 19.5 pounds. This Ampeg is 26 pounds. I put it in a rack anyway, so I'll be good there.
Okay, any recommendations for a rack effects unit?

Haven't looked into the Bass Pod, but I just picked up the PodXt from Line6 on eBay. With the guitar version, you have 30+ amp sounds at your fingertips, multiple effects, and you can use it through the front of a combo amp (my intended use), through the computer for noodling/writing songs, or through the PA. You also have a tuner, and effects built-in too.

sweet, i've played on the guitar ones. good sound, just hard to flip thru live.
My rack has a power strip unit, a lit tuner, wireless, OD pedal, and the hartke currently.

when you play live - what speaker setup do you usually go with?
I have been using one 4x10 Hartke. Was wondering if a 1x15 or a 2x15 was that huge a bonus/worth it. thanks!

Ampeg is the way to go!!!!!

okay, i hnow have a 250W hartke head, and a 450 watt ampeg head (arriving tomorrow).
I also have a 4x10 and a 2x10 cabinets.
Is there a way to either run them together, or dual to double the sound and get 2 tones? Or should I just keep one as a dedicated backup? thanks.

You can dual sound them depending on the connection. Ampeg has a special cable they have to dual connect....can't remember what it is.
I used to bass tech/road manager for this bad ass bass played here in Jersey named TM Stevens

There is a guy name Jay Hayes at Ampeg you can email for answers: Jhayesslm@aol.com

has anyone heard of any bassists who run two cabinets live? I'm intrigued by the idea of having two good tones running at once :)

yeah man, the guy I just sent you. TM had 2 SVT-5 Pro's and 2 SVT-4 Pro's.
The HI OUTPUTS went into his SVT-410HLF Amps from the SVT PRO 5’S.
The LOW OUTPUTS went into his SVT 18 Bass Cabinet from the SVT PRO 4’S.
It sounded like an earthquake. He actually blew a the power fuses at The Stone Pony because of the high voltage.
The cables were NOTRIEC CABLES

I Loved the Trace Elliot that I use to have. Bought and sold on E-Bay.

No. It really doesn't happen alot down here.. IF you "nail it" with ONE good tone having two good tones would IMO muddy the tone.

My intentions are to set it up to sort of bring my amp to life. Haven't you ever just gone into a club you're playing and can't get a sound because the carpet on the walls are too thick, soaking up all the sound? Or if it's wood, you're getting a harsh abrasive slap-back from them?
This will allow me to get a different sound out of the amp I normally use. If I'm still not happy, I'll run through the PA! And, I can use smaller amps (Fender Deluxe, maybe even my Princeton Reverb) and because I'll now have two stages of output "force" I can choose to drive with (both if I prefer), I can be a bit louder and retain the tone I want from the smaller amp with a (personal taste) more suitable sound. Plus, all the effects I was noodling with today?!?! Holy crap, pretty crazy.

Debussey just ordered one of those for itself. :)
