I have a young son, and I will never allow him to workout with weights until hes 14-15, before that he can stick to pull-ups, dips, and push ups. That kid will have some sort of problems associated with heavy lifting, I don't know what but something.

I agree. I remember Lee Priest saying the doc. told is mom that he should not lift anything heavier then a soup can or something.

You must have some strong evidence to support such a claim.
I would be interested in seeing this scientific proof of problems associated with heavy lifting.

Recent studies have shown (no, I don't have the references right now) that weight training can be started by kids at age 7-8.
But using light weights of course, not like this kid.
Doing repetitions of 15-20 repetions with a lighter weight is beneficial, and doesn't stunt growth.

This is such an old wives tale.Let me ask you this.Whats more dangerouss POP warner football or weight training? Its not even close. The Eastern block countries have their kids lifting at 5 years old.If the kids supervised there is no problems. My son has competed since he was 8 years old in powerlifting and hes perfectly healthy.Geeze, for a bunch of guys that lift, youd think you would see some more informed people.Study after study have concluded that weight training is perfectly healthy.

My son has been lifting weights since he was 4 and there is certainly nothing wrong with him. >:(

Hedge is right...Im working on my masters in Exercise physiology and there have been many studies done to disprove the old "wivestale"

Sorry man, but I do have this little thing called common sense, it trumps anything and everything.

I have my degree in Exercise physiology, as long as he uses proper form he should be fine. His brother is the 17 year old you see pressing over 300lb and hes 6'3" and started training when he was younger then Willy. My guess is that there father is a strength coach of some sort. The kid has excellent form.

His dad is not a cool guy. Take it from someone who knows him VERY well. His oldest son actually holds a record i the snatch. They live to lift.

His dad is the guy in the background with the dark shirt. Willy is a great kid as is his oldest son. Nice daughters too. But it ends there.
