Tommy Morrison Accepts Chuck Liddell’s Challenge and Will Make His MMA Debut!
May 10, 2007 - Tommy “The Duke” Morrison, one of the most intriguing boxers to even step into the squared circle, shocked the MMA world this week by announcing his intention to fight 340 lb. John Stover, an experienced cagefighter with 8 professional fights, on June 9, 2007 at the Cliff Castle Casino (www.cliffcastlecasino.ne t) in Arizona in Gino Carlucci’s World Fighting Championship (www.thewfc.com).
Morrison’s bombshell announcement comes over a decade after his previous bombshell announcement that rocked the boxing world that he had tested positive for AIDS. Morrison, however, has been symptom free for 10 years now and claims that he was the victim of a false positive test result. He recently started boxing again and was cleared to return to the ring by the West Virginia Athletic Commission after passing a battery of medical tests in Arizona, the results of which were forwarded to West Virginia.
Best known to the general public for his role as Tommy Gunn in Rocky V, Morrison was on top of the boxing world before a single test result in 1996 took it all away. But Morrison (46-3-1, 40 KOs) was no celluloid tiger and was a significant fighter and box office draw. George Foreman, for example, lost to only five fighters in his career and Morrison is one. Morrison also held a share of the heavyweight title on two occasions.
“I had just signed a three-fight deal with Don King,” Morrison recalls, “that was going to lead to showdown with Mike Tyson that was worth $38 million. My first fight was against Stormy Weathers in Las Vegas, but then came the test result and the fight was cancelled. I estimate that cost me around $100 million in fight purses over the past 10 years.”
Morrison was spurred to start cagefighting by an interview that Chuck Liddell gave on Good Morning Texas where Liddell called out Morrison and said he wanted to fight him. “I couldn’t believe that,” Morrison says. “It’s one thing to talk about fighting someone but another thing to actually do it. Let’s see if Chuck Liddell’s heart is as big as his mouth. He is crazy to want to get into the cage with me. I beat George Foreman. Nobody in the history of boxing hit harder than George Foreman. So why would I be afraid to get hit by Chuck Liddell? He should be the one to be afraid. Liddell has never been hit by anyone like me. Dana White always talks about how a top cagefighter like Liddell could beat a top boxer so here’s a chance to make it happen. I want to know if Liddell and Dana White really mean what they say or if they are just full of talk. I will take on Chuck Liddell anytime, anyplace, anywhere."
Morrison’s first step in his mixed martial arts career will be followed and reported on around the world and “The Duke” is dead serious about his upcoming fight. “I’m really excited to be fighting in the WFC and I feel like a whole new world has been opened up to me. If you want to see the future of mixed martial arts then come to the Cliff Castle Casino in Camp Verde Arizona on June 9, 2007…because that future is me.”

With those fucking gloves he will be able to KO him no question.
It's more of a case of how sharp Morrison is these days, but I agree about Chuck needing to use his other skills, a stand up fight would be dangerous against what used to be a very good boxer!

Your right... I dont think it will ever happen. I think its more or less some guy trying to hype up his fight since he is probabally broke. Tommy would give chuck a run for his money on his feet.. For christ sakes Tommy took them right on the chin from George just like he says.. And Foreman was a beast.. I dont think Chuck could knock him out... But I dont see this fight happening either.

I just found this also about this card.. The BEAST is fighting to.. Damn he has to be 40+ I wonder how he will do...
The Card is stacked with UFC hall of fame Dan “The Beast” Severn who will face Victor Vincelette in what will be a battle you don’t want to miss. Also on the card the ever exciting Steven “Razor” Sharp who will defend his Lightweight title against the Freak of Nature 42 year old Bob “The Phenom” Calnin. This will be one of the Razors toughest fight’s to date.

That's not what I meant. I'm well aware of the fact that just trading punches either one of them would KTFO out of Chuck but at the same time Tommy Morrison isn't and wasn't the second coming. He was exposed several times before he stuck his dick in the wrong glory hole in Atlantic City.

Tomy had one recent fight in the past 11 years, BUT I still say he'll knock chuck out.....Chuck aint even in Morrisons league after a 11 year lay off.

If Chuck ever fights Tommy, you will see him kick a lot more because El Duque has no chance of picking up that leg or shooting a double. Not to mention you would see Chuck's wrestling ability quick.

But this fight will probably never happen. Reminds me of the Tyson affair. Just creating some buzz to generate more interest in UFC from boxing fans, and a washed-up boxer get's some much-wanted attention in exchange.

Chuck was a D1 wrestler, and is a purple under Nova Uniao and John Lewis. His ego will go out the door like it did against Overeem when he was rocked. He shot for a takedown. He has also trained with Vikingpowers mentor, Eddie Bravo. So I know his mission control is tight! :o

NSAC took his license in the first place. They have more strict guidelines than other places (like West Virginia). The guy who was head of NSAC when Morrison tested positive is now upper management for UFC. UFC goes by Nevada State Athletic Commission even when they go to other places, even Pride wouldn't let Wanderlei fight in Japan because he was on their suspended list. So I don't see him getting the license from them.

the legit boxers hes fought have kicked his ass, badly I might add

Well then he isn't using his training. He's 20-3-0 with only TWO submissions. And BOTH were in March of 1999!
Doesn't sound like a guy that likes taking things to the ground. He's last nine wins were all KO or TKO/stoppage. He WON'T be able to KO Morrison.
And don't forget about other MMA guys that are great wrestlers that suddenly forget how to wrestle and end up losing the match.

Thats because he PREFERS to stand and trade, and against fighters who are grappling based, he can afford to get away with it. Rewatch the Overeem fight, he gets rocked, and he closes for the takedown. Mezger as well. When he is in trouble, he will clinch, he will attempt takedowns, whether he finishes with a sub, or gnp is another story. IF he fought a superior striker, I don't think his ego would get in his way to retaining the belt. What am I saying, he will lose to Page shortly.

He had decent power but when he was matched against taller fighters he faltered. Plus he had a suspect chin. Recently they replayed his fight with Lennox Lewis and it was clear how outmatched Tommy was. I still like him though and if he would have gotten his head together he could have been pretty decent. On a side note, it is funny how only ten or so years ago he was the great white hope and now they are looking for the great black hope. My how things change.

He tested positive in Phoenix,Arizona and in Houston,Texas resulting in no boxing license being issued in Phoenix and Texas. The boxing license issued by the West Virginia Boxing Commissioner was obtained by Morrison and his agent/Promoter Peter Mckinn by submitting blantantly false blood (the blood of another person without HIV) and false blood test documentation to the said Commissioner who then issued a license for Morrison to box. Both Morrison and Mckinn are currently under investigation and it is strongly likely Morrison's license will be revoked and first victory vacated by the West Virginia Boxing Commission for fraud. It is likely Pete Mckinn's promoters license will be revoked as well for fraud on various Commissions in this regard. Because of Morrison's and Pete Mckinn's said fraud which is criminal in most states I was forced to terminate my professional services with Morrison.

dude----average boxers fight saturday night in any local town...Tommy Morrison was one of the best at his prime in the pro ranks... He didn't lose to nobodies...He lost to top ranked boxers...He was also a street fighter before he even thought of boxing...GHB addict Chuck would be knocked out faster then rampage did him in...
