Title: Just to reiterate - bodybuilding is not a sport
Post by: rocket on May 13, 2007, 02:32:55 AM
The great thing about sport is that on the day, anybody can win it.  They've all got a fair go at it.  Some teams/individuals will be better prepared/richer but when they step out onto the field anything can happen.  Thats sport.

There is no sport in any activity where ripoffs are flippantly pointed out to be handicapping newcomers in order to encourage them to pay their dues.

"Its ok bro, he just has to pay his dues" -

Hah, the "sport" of idiots.  It would be an insult to intelligence but most of you know just how poor the intellectual capacity of your average bodybuilding fan is (judging by the average level here and on other boards).

Ain't that the truth.

Preach on brother love.

You forgot to mention the "momentum", that Cicherillo and Solomon loves to talk about.

WTF is that? Momentum?

In sports, you're either good enough to win. Or you're not.

But hey, this is bodybuilding, where you have to "pay your dues" and "build a momentum"... ::)

FFS, snap out of it!

What I do know is this:

There is not one single "activity" out there that has the same kind of drama attached to it, I mean think about it, if you would be into let's say cycling you think you could log on to the No1 cycling board online and expect to talk to let's say Jan Ulrich? Were else do you have so many screwed up and wackos all at one place?

This is one of the things why I love to follow competitive Bodybuilding, the drama.

agree and disagree,  Boxers and MMA fighters get ripped off all the time with poor judging.  Unfortunately in BB, you can't knock someone out and get a undisputed win :-\.  I mean look at last year's O placings, they still gave Ronnie 2nd, and he looked like a bag of smashed assholes.

any event or competition which has the requisite of opinion for the winner to be chosen in my opinion is not a sport..
100 metres.. man crosses the line first he is the winner..... No momentum... or opinion needed...
kevin flex...shawn ..and possibly dillet all should had at least one olympia win..
but due to they did not...
not because they wasnt good enough..
but down to opinion...
....
dennis wolfe should have won last night.. if not him the james...
branch warren winning was total BULLSHIT

So what is Bodybuilding than?

its a beauty competition, where instead of who has the best body, its who has the best connections, and who's been in the sport long enough without a win.

someone should seriously make a list of all the blatantly bullshit bodybuilding judging throughout the years

i can think of 10 in the past 3 years off the top of my head...really really sad

So what is Bodybuilding than?

Bodybuilding is not a sport.

Bodybuilding is just the means used to get better at the IFBB sport that is POSING. Bodybuilding or building your body is just another way to get better at any kind of physical performance based sport.

A better name for IFBB would be IFP, International Federation of Posers.

Even if all the humanbeing say that BBing is not a sport, Ill do it.

I dont care what another people say. I live my life freely.

It is a pageant for attention whores with low self-esteem. For those who seek the approval of others (in this case a crowd of gay men) to the point where they are willing to abuse illegal drugs, sever and destroy their bodies, relationships, their future, et cetera.

All usually for a plastic trophy, and if you are fortunate enough to turn "pro", for NOTHING.

It is not a sport as there is no tangible measure to decide who wins...ie who is the fastest? most weight lifted? jumped highest etc

its totally subjective

Is carbing up a skill?

posing well does affect placings, ask paul dillet or jay cutler at the 2001 olympia

if you look awkward when you pose how can you think that wouldn't affect placings?

no carbing up is not a skill, if you really didn't know

well every major newspaper and the great arnold share my view

if you feel good having a guy named "goatboy" support your argument than good for you ;)

sure carbing up affects placings, but it's not a part of the actual competiton

i hear football players eat a lot of pasta before their games, doesn't mean it's part of the sport

a silly statement is thinking posing is not a skill when you clearly lacked posing skills

Boxing is not a sport either, points mean nothing, it's anyone's guess who's judging, haha

"Paying your dues" only exists if you're a moaning loser, like "man I had myself in 1st but came 15th, blah blah". I do feel for some European bodybuilders but Dorian came to America and wiped the floor with everyone, with no sponsorship at first, and no hype, he hardly even talked to anyone, he was simply too good.
