When I was a kid, one of my girlfriends had skunks on occassion (along with other odd pets).  Looking back, I'm surprised her parents let her keep them ~ took 'em to the vet - had their stinkers removed and everything ....  I remember thier paws being really really soft.

In my opinion--and this is just my opinion, I'll freely admit I'm biased, domestically born and raised skunks do not make bad pets.    As a matter of fact, I think they make better pets than domestic cats.   You just have to be prepared to deal with the fact they are skunks.   ;)
