Just plain ignorant. I just can't comprehend this. Interesting thought though, could this be used in a court of law? Say someone is up on a charge, could a lawyer cite the 12 million that were allowed to break it?

After the provisions are in place, a guest-worker program would be initiated, under which 400,000 temporary workers per year would be granted a "Y" visa.
The two-year visas would require they return home for a year, then allow them to re-enter for an additional two-years. The process could be repeated twice more.
Each year, they would be able to bring their families on 30-day visitor visas, and each year, they would earn points toward a merit-based green card.
In other words - they want to keep the borders wide open and keep the abuse of our immigration laws rampant.
No wonder this congress has a shitty approval rating.. They're utterly worthless.

When you put it that way, it seems kind of a shame that you guys didn't pass some legislation to get what you wanted in this area any time during those 6 years when you controlled the Presidency, the Congress, and the Senate.
Did it just slip your mind while you were having lunches with Jack Abramoff and chasing down those foxy Congressional pages?
Or is it possible that Republican lawmakers never gave a shit what you thought about anything?

In my eyes, the congress whether controled by repugs or dems = still worthless. The republicans were debating steroids in sports, while this one isn't doing any better with illegals.

Illegal immigrants question Senate deal
David Guerra wants to be legal, but he says the path to citizenship offered by the Senate on Thursday would be too risky and too expensive, and could end up driving him deeper into the shadows.
Guerra's wife and children in El Salvador depend on the $300 he sends home each month from his job as a day laborer. Key provisions of the legislation would require him to return home to apply for residency, pay a $5,000 fine and spend thousands more in application fees.
That would be disastrous for his family, he said, and, worse, he's not sure he can trust U.S. immigration authorities who have been rounding up and deporting his fellow immigrants for months.
"If I go home, who is going to guarantee that I'll be let back in?" said the 44-year-old who lays bricks, clears weeds and does landscaping.

I think you're right. This is a matter of practicality. Rounding up 12 million illegals is a daunting task. Many of those illegals work in lowpaying jobs which inures to the benefit of the employer. It's economically practical to keep things the way they are. I don't agree with that though.

You know, the ones who last week were saying illegals were a scourage on society and need to be sent home. Since Bush says they should stay now, they will suddenly turn into "I've said all along we need some sort of guest visa program".

Seriously, I'm not thrilled with this. I don't mind amnesty, but I wanted the borders CLOSED and not more of the same. :-\

We are in alot of trouble..once these people get family here we will be outnumbered. We will be 3rd world in 30 years. i hope we can some how assimliate these people but I'm not sure the current culture is as strong as it was when the Irish,Italians,Polish etc came over here and were everntually Americanized.
