Great Idea!! ;D
My freind cleans carpets and an old lady who was widowed was throwing out a big box of magazines from the 40s and 50s. He got them to me. ;D
Ive got alot of bob hoffman "Strength & Health"...when weider was a punk.
Young skinny bill pearl is in them....reg park too. n The box was full of old ironmans from the 50s......mint shape.
Back then "Peary rader" would send you a reciept of what ever equipment you had purchased....(as this old guy did)...it is typed on an old 30s typewriter i think.

I own almost every Strength and Health, Ironman, Your Physique, Muscle Power, Muscle Builder, etc. close to 3000 in total. The oldest is the July 1934 Strength and Health.
I haven't bought a current US magazine off the newstand since the late 1990s.

i have set of eugene sandow split grip dumbells from the 1890's. also the training manuals included with eugene demonstrating exercises and the box they were shipped from europe in back when they were new. true story.
-
I started training in 1970 so I have some Ironman, Muscular Development and Strength and Health that I bought. The very first magazine I bought was Strength and Health with Boyer Coe from 1970. I had a neighbor back then who had trained a little and gave me a box of the above publications dating back to 1965. Ironman was 35 cents an issue.

Did you pay for it... the mag I mean>?

I have a pretty big collection - a used bookstore in Thunder Bay sells them for $1 each and I usually buy tons when they get new stock in. My oldest issues are Musclemags from the seventies. I have several hundred magazines.
I used to buy quite a few of the new magazines and have a subscription to Musclemag. I haven't picked up many lately but only because I haven't gotten around to it. I usually buy every MD too. I like all the magazines for one reason or another although I haven't bought too many issues of Ironman, but that is not because I don't like Ironman but because they aren't carried at the stores I frequent more commonly.
-
I have a S&H from the thirties, lots of old Iron Man mags-1950`s,60`,70`s,and 80`s...some old MD`s from the 60`s through the 80`s and a bunch of MuscleMags from the 70`s and 80`s.
I even have some old Reg Park Journals that I bought off E-Bay, as well as some of the English mag,Health & Strength.
Lots more of the now defunct Muscle Digest,as well as Charlton publications,Muscle World,Bodybuilder, and Muscle Up.
Got lots of more recent ones also but stopped buying them a few years ago unless there is something in them that really interests me.
hazbin,you looke awesome dude...............keep pumping!

Oldest would be 1900 issues of Health & Strength. Friends have told me they suspect I have the largest H&S collection in America, about 800 issues, which is by no means a complete collection.
As of a few years ago my mag count was approx. 6,000. Stopped counting.

Yup. H&S began in 1898 (although it incorrectly pre-dated itself later as being six years older). It is an odd feeling to read about Vansart in the present tense in the old mags, and Hackenschmidt, and Sandow, and Saxon. Mentions of where each was performing etc. And to trace the early career of Thomas Inch and others who were just beginning in the physical culture field.

Yes, 800 issues of H&S, earliest issue from 1900 :)
Some issues are so fragile (pulp paper) that I literally tear off pieces by simply turning the pages. World War II air strikes against London destroyed many back issues, and readers of H&S were encouraged to recycle the paper by returning issues to the H&S office. Therefore many issues are very rare.
Some of the bound volumes I have of H&S are in great condition though.

anyone missing back issues for their collection, let me know. i have a couple thousand back issues. most are 80's and 90's flex, musclemag and m & f. i'll send them free, you pay shipping.

My oldest [and most treasured] bodybuilding magazines I have are Man's World May 1967, and Health and Strength dated March 2nd and March 16th 1967. As for my latest? I'm waiting on Flex and Muscle & Fitness "Arnold Special" celebrating his 60th birthday! 8)

Man i get so jealous of you guys that dont count calories when dieting down......
If i go over 3,000 cals a day, i bloat up.
The only time i think to take drugs is when dieting.......get on some clen or thyroid and eat like a normal person.....
Im not saying your all drugs tho....you attained a very high level of shape.
If youd have went in to the show like that second pic....it'd be all over for the other guys. 8)

Whats your oldest and latest bodybuilding magazine you have?
None. Bodybuilding magazines are for fags.
Hope this helps.

i'd rather see the mags go to a true bb fan. i'm set up financially and the mags are very important to me. i'm keeping one copy of each for myself but don't have the space for all the doubles.

my problem is that my metabolism races when i get lean and it's hard to get enough calories. second pic was over 240 lbs. less than a week out. contest was 214ish. i'd love to show up on stage looking right, but i always try for that extra edge and mess it up.
