This past school year I taught a couple of physical science classes ( the basic HS grad requirement class)
for kids that had failed it previously , aka "a repeater class". A guy and a girl that had failed TWICE before and had a bad attitude overall were just under the passing avg of 70% going into the state mandated end of course exam. They acted cool and a tad detached during the review process, but, I could tell they wanted to pass and noticed they actually took notes and kept up, etc.
They ended up with exam scores of 73 and 75 and passed the class.
It was a great momment to show them yesterday that they had passed and EARNED the grade.
Sometimes this job has some neat perks.
Not bodybuiding , but felt it was a cool story.

A positive post for a change.
Good stuff Howie.
I just hope Keith reads this story. He needs to understand that this world still has people who believe in their work and achieve positive outcomes!
Once again, an inspiring story.

ahhh the rewarding growth of a child from a 68% to a 73% score in just one years' time.
I miss those little teaching victories.

Nice to hear, Howard. Keep up the good work. We need more teachers with a similar, positive attitude.
/uh, i think the victory belongs to the students. you share in the spoils..... :)

Everyone is a cynic.
Howie, just keep on doing what you're doing. Teaching is the most important profession in the world. You guys don't get paid enough for what you do!

Good job, but this proves how stupid most children are in America. The adults are dumber than bricks as well. Afterall, there are 3 GOP candidates who deny a little SCIENTIFIC FACT that is not up for debate, evolution.

it always feels good to see students improving and even the poorer ones do improve if pushed. i had a senior in my class and her grade before the final was a 68 and she needed a 70 or above to graduate. i said just make sure to do well on the final as i will not curve the grades and she got an 87. she ended up with a C- for the class but she could have earned a B+ had she applied herself consistently throughout the semester....

I almost never did homework in school and always relied on tests and such to keep me at a passing level. My teachers were always so frustrated with me, they would be like you get A's on all your test so you obviously know what we're learning so why don't you just hand in your homework ;D

Thanks, it is the end of the year and Sat morn is graduation. Ya know, I love bodybuilding, but after 18 yrs of teaching, I still enjoy seeing kids that ahd to struggle , make it in the end with continues effort and not quitting, etc.I think THAT is the big life lesson. I knoew some would do some good natured ribbing of me for posting this, no biggy, it is all part of the get big madness. ;D
As a bodybuilder I feel I make a difference in myself. As a high school teacher I feel I make a difference in society.
For me, it is wondeful rewarding and balanced lifestyle.
Oh, in regards to some reply, yes, the big victory is the students, THEY did the work and earned the grade.
My victory is being able to share in that.

Howie, you sound dedicated to the profession of teaching. I wish there more like you in our schools today.
A teacher who is inspired and passionate, will have a direct influence of the students that he/she tutors.
I hope you can share more of your stories here on Getbig.

Are you implying that you are smarter than average? Why did you limited yourself to Junior College instead of a 4 year degree? Should I post your "papers" & other infos that proves it?
Good job Howie. allways nice to have a positive achievement before going for a long weekend 8)
