You qualify for the I.F.B.B by winning a pro card. In the U.S, this entails winning the NPC Nationals or the U.S.A. Outside the U.S, is is much harder because national titles from most countries other than the U.S and some Western European nations are not recognized by the I.F.B.B. The top amateur from a Third World country needs to win the World Championship or Amateur Mr.Universe to win an I.F.B.B pro card. Or relocate to the U.S, become a citizen, and then win an American National title.

Basically, the best way is to become "personally acquainted" with granpa...... :-X

To be an IFBB pro you need to be offered an invitation from the IFBB. They can hand out an invitation to anyone they want, but winning certain contests will get you an automatic invitation.
Limiting ourselves to the men, automatic invitations include winning your class at the NPC Nationals (7 invitations), winning the overall at the NPC USA, winning the overall at the IFBB North American, winning the overall at the NPC Team Universe.
Outside the US, winning your IFBB national championships should be enough, but they are very inconsistant. Winning the IFBB Worlds should get you a pro card, but if so, most choose not to accept it. In the last 10 years, only Ahmad Haidar (http://musclememory.com/show.php?a=Haidar,+Ahmad), Jaroslav Horvath (http://musclememory.com/show.php?a=Horvath,+Jaroslav), and Dennis Wolf (http://musclememory.com/show.php?a=Wolf,+Dennis) won the worlds and went on to be a pro.
in another thread, we were talking about amatuer vs pro. Hamdullah Aykutlu (http://musclememory.com/show.php?a=Aykutlu,+Hamdullah) and El Shahat Mabrouk (http://musclememory.com/show.php?a=Mabrouk,+El+Shahat) competed as pros in the IFBB and then later went back to competing as amateurs in the IFBB Worlds.
regarding current pros, how and when did Hidetada Yamagishi (http://musclememory.com/show.php?a=Yamagishi,+Hidetada) get his pro card? His best showing at the Worlds was 6th in 2000. He won the overall Japan Nationals in 2001 and his class again in 2002.
Silvio Samuel Saviour (http://musclememory.com/show.php?a=Samuel+Saviour,+Silvio) won a whole bunch of NAC and WABBA contests, but I have no record of him ever entering an amateur IFBB event, certainly not the Worlds.
Tamer El Shahat (http://musclememory.com/show.php?a=El+Shahat,+Tamer) won the IFBB Egyptian Nationals, but was DQed from the Worlds for failing the drug test (had been third). He also won Musclemania.
Mohamad Moussawi (http://musclememory.com/show.php?a=Moussawi,+Mohamad) was living in southern California, won the NPC California, placed 6th at the NPC Nationals, then moved to New Zealand, won their Nationals (but supposedly failed the drug test), and now he's a pro.

ahh my friend, it all depends on your reaction to being in a dark room in the basement of the weider ranch for a prostate exam by several
old men sponsors

So basically you're saying that if you're not an American, it's pretty fuccking arbitrary. You can't earn it, it must be given to you.

In addition to the contests Tim noted, an American man can go pro in the IFBB by winning the North American Masters, the Masters Nationals over 40 (top 2 go pro, like at the USA), over 50, or over 60. The North American is open to Canadian & Mexican citizens as well.
-
Are there any Mexican pro bodybuilders?
-
Not that I know of. I tried finding Mexican websites on bodybuilding, but the ones that used to exist are gone. I found a list of gyms in Mexico City but that was all.
-
The IFBB Professional League clearly favors US athletes.
That's one of the reasons why several IFBB Pro athletes from outside the US go back to being an amateur and place high at the IFBB World Championships (drug tested).
In most countries the national IFBB has to recommend an athlete to the IFFB President or the President of the IFBB Pro League for pro status. In the US at least 10 amateurs get automatically pro status because they win a domestic competition.

i remember this guy winning the 2005 NABBA world championships (he took his class and overall) and he wanted to turn pro but his national federation (polish) did not agree. don't know why.

Oh thats easy,
1. agree to do everything you are told
2. don't get paid for photo shoots and other crap
3. don't expect to make money if you aren't in the top 5 or 6 in the WORLD
4. don't expect much of anything
5. pay your dues on time
6. don't ever complain about the judging, it won't help, we have to take care of the ones who will make us more money and have sponsors that pay us (even under the table, oh I didn't say that did I)
7. if some guy says he is your rep, just go along with it or you'll never place in the money
8. don't read or give your Olympia contract (if you make it) to anyone else, especially an attorney or anyone with an IQ of over 80.
9. better get you own medical insurance (if you can)
10.the good thing is we (IFBB) does not care how you conduct yourself on or off the stage, so dealing and doing drugs, turning in friends, lying, stealing, ripping off promoters, gay for pay, doing trannies, like getting pissed on, wearing thongs to bed, putting fruit in other places than your mouth, and bouncing checks (if you are a promoter) are all allowed. This particular IFBB code alone makes it all worth it.
Hope this helps
oh and if you are really good we will make you our "mouth" and scapegoat but give you the title Athletes Rep without any voting needed (like how the President stays in office)

Onlyme couldnt tell the truth more brotha.. When sitting there watching the KeystonePro, my buddy was asking about this, how much do pros make, etc, etc..when I shed the light that as per your # 3, he was shocked...Also I threw in the health risks, and the cost of gear to be able to compete at that leve (unless your genetically gifted with that Myostatin genetic disorder :) ) its almost sad....
Its a sad life unless you are Jay, Ronnie or some other top Pro...like Levronie that was very marketable, and could make lots off endorsements..
-
I'll bet the powers that be really HATE the boards and free speech making it widely known that pro bodybuilders make shit for money, along with all the other unsavory crap they have to do. This means a lot fewer people aspiring to be pro bodybuilders, which means a lot fewer NPC competitors, which means less money for Manion and company! 8)

Is Level 5 code for Weider or Manion

Win your nationals and/or an international show then apply for pro status in PDI ;D...more likely to get in there.
