WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Bush, seeking to blunt international criticism of the U.S. record on climate change, on Thursday urged 15 major nations to agree by the end of next year on a global target for reducing greenhouse gases.
Bush called for the first in a series of meetings to begin this fall, bringing together countries identified as major emitters of greenhouse gases blamed for global warming. The list would include the United States, China, India and major European countries. After setting a goal, the nations would be free to develop their own strategies to meet the target.
The president outlined his proposal in a speech ahead of next week's summit in Germany of leading industrialized nations, where global warming is to be a major topic and Bush will be on the spot.
The United States has refused to ratify the landmark 1997 Kyoto Protocol requiring industrialized countries to reduce greenhouse gases to 1990 levels by 2012. Developing countries, including China and India, were exempted from that first round of cuts. Bush rejected the Kyoto approach, as well as the latest German proposal for what happens after 2012.
"The United States takes this issue seriously," Bush said.

Same thing, earlier this week, when I posted those quotes from Bush about how we need to control iraqi oil to ensure we get good prices. They said it wasn't about oil, then Bush says the war WAS about controlling oil.
A true man will say "Hey, I was wrong, but I'm learning here". I've said it, and I'm sometimes proven wrong here. I concede points all the time. I wish our folks here would do the same.
or, even worse is when they "suppose" something to explain away these inconsistencies. Like, "Bush only admitted it was real to appease the libs". I mean, they're making up a guess, and one which casts Bush in a WORSE light - cowtowing to powerless democrats. I mean, could they do more to hurt their own party? sad.

But you know what fellas? This is all political blubber and maneuvering. Means little if you add the 30 billion for aid thing. I think maybe he is getting pressure form the Republican party because they see that they might get killed in the 2008 elections.

Perhaps but either way it doesn't look good considering Gore is the face of Global Warming and that so many neotaints tried to discredit Gore and claimed Global Warming was nothing more than Liberal Propaganda.
