Apparently in last night's game against Toronto A-Rod was on base when a pop-up was hit to the third baseman and A-Rod being the weasel he is yelled "it's mine" as he was running the bases behind the Toronto third baseman. The third baseman backed off and the ball dropped allowing three runs to score. And then he lied about it after the game saying he didn't yell anything even though the video clearly showed him yelling.
I'm searching for a link but they're talking about it on WEEI right now.
Just another in a long line of cheap shots by the most talented baseball player on the planet. Look for A-Rod to get drilled next time they play Toronto.
What a friggin dirtbag.

yeah ive seen the vid a few times here on the news......it looked like he yelled "haaaaa" , or something like that.
no rule against it but still a bush league play on his part.
-
Oh brother. After I defend this guy against the papers trying to ruin him. Thanks arod. This latest incident was busch league to say the least,
-
Had that been in Boston they would be knocking the crap outa each other.
-
If the fucking NY Post hadn't been prying into his private life then I bet you this incident wouldn't have happened.
More reason to hate the NYC media and fans.
-
ya i just made a post about this in the other topic thats started here. pretty childish thing to do..and even worse to lie about it to reporters when its clearly visible on tape. even johny damon said it was a cheap thing to do. what does that tell ya???
like someone said, wait til they play the jays again and see how many times he gets drilled >:( ;D
by the way im a blue jays fan

what does that have to do with it??
beacause the media took pictures of him out with some other woman he decided to be a little child and distract the other team while theyre making a catch?? ya youre right...its all the medias and fans fault he did that ::)

Hey guys, give the dude a break. I mean, after all, if you were on a losing streak like the one the Yankees are on right now, you'd be pulling out all the stops too.

pretty poor excuse.
you dont see the devil rays or royals(just to name 2) doing it.
a couple weeks ago the blue jays lost like 10 in a row and they didnt do it.
-
i played baseball untill i was 24 years old.. ive ran around the bases a million times, and never once would it even cross my mind to do that.. it just shows you he has a scumbag mindset. and this isnt the first time hes pulled a move like this
but im not saying what he did was wrong.. whenever someone is caught in a rundown, the runner is always yelling "ball" to get the other guy to throw by accident.. when a catcher runs over to catch a popup by the other teams dugout they always yell "i got it" and they never try to stop them from falling in the dugout.
so i dont think he did anything wrong -but he's still a scum, and hopefully he wont be wearing the pinstripes next year.
-
I admit it... I love it!
Didn't guys do that stuff in old days to win... I think it's hilarious. Baseball is supposed to be fun right?
That shit is funny.

Uh yeah, maybe you don't watch a lot of games because that happens all the time. I've seen opposing teams try and catch infielders plenty of times. In fact I saw a discussion on that very topic today on one of the Sports channels and the consensus was that teams did try and catch opposing players from falling into their dugouts.
BTW, I like how in one sentence you say he's got a scumbag mindset for doing it and in another sentence you're saying he didn't do anything wrong. ::)
This reminds me of that debate we had a while ago when you said you weren't a Yankee fan and you said Fenway was an easy place for lefties to hit homeruns and Yankee stadium was a hard place for lefties to hit homeruns. That debate didn't work out too well for you either.
-
dummy,, listen to it again. there was nothing wrong with what he did,, but the fact that he thought of it while running the bases shows you a lot.. how many other people do you think would even had the idea of calling for the ball?
and that "debate" about the homeruns was me fucking around with you, and i did a great job of pissing you off,, and obviously your still upset :'(
-
If a first baseman can try things like the hidden ball trick, then i don't see a problem with what Alex did...
and the players saying they never heard of anyone doing that are full of shit...I've seen a couple of interviews years back about guys using the classic noonon miss(from caddyshack) all the time...
Guys in basketball always say shit....A classic is basketball is when a guy is about to take a three pointed, they yell out "foot on the line" just to fck with them

I wasn't making excuses for A-Hole; I was poking fun at him for being such a dillweed.

look I hate A-rod as much as anyone after stiffing my Sox but this is an everyday occurance in professional baseball. I know, I know you wouldn't think it went beyond little league but it does. I was a minor leauge Umpire for 3 years and probably saw it 4-5 times a week and hated it everytime.
The only rule that could be looked at as maybe applying to the play is 7.08.b
Any runner is out when He intentionally interferes with a thrown ball; or hinders a fielder attempting to make a play on a batted ball;
Now normally we are taught interference to be physical contact. At the highschool level it is different and we would have been encouraged to call a runner out for the same infraction.

I didn't know you were a Sox fan MM.
As for this being an everyday occurrence why is it that every manager and player that has been interviewed has said they've never seen it before and that it's a bush league move? And I'm talking about 15 guys or so that I've heard, seen or read about.
-
Couldn't the thirdbaseman tell the difference between his shortstop's voice and A-Rod's?
-
I lost all respect for him, you can expect the next time he faces Toronto, he'll get a ball thats a little more "high and tight" than usual, no one one his team defended his actions, that was pure little league BS!
-

oh it is Bush leauge, but I know that what's his face on baseball tonight last night...Vina? and today on MLB on XM they were calling it an everyday thing....I've seen it...the fact that it is A-Rod is why people act like it never happens.....his other stunts have labeled him
Go sox baby, got a chance to go 16.5 up on the Yanks this weekend!!

including johny damon who is on his team!!!

it was his first game with the team this year

Because they are lying...It happens all the time...99 out of 100 don't fall for it so it's never an issue...Do you realise how much jawing they do out there?...You think after benches clear and punches are thrown that all rules are followed? Some of these guys go slidding into second base screaming at the top of their lungs..You never hear a thing about it...Anything to throw them off...Pete Rose was famous for playing all out and running his mouth as much as possible...
Alex is being picked on because it worked...If the guy would have caught it, he would have looked at A-rod and laughed and said nice try...
Wouldn't one think that the hidden ball trick that you see from time to time at first base be called a bush league play?

So according to you there's a mass conspiracy against A-Rod? So he's a victim now?
The Blue Jay bench almost emptied because of it yet it's an everyday occurrence. Um, yeah. His own teammates aren't even defending him.
A-Rod's a dirtbag, it's not like he's never done anything shady before. He reminds me of Reggie Jackson in that way.
At this point the only people defending him are A-Rod nuthuggers because there aren't any players or coaches that I've seen come to his defense, including his own teammates.

I defend him, and I don't have any love for the guy either way... I always thought it was a part of baseball.
I agree that if the ball had been caught, it would have been a "whatever dude" situation.
I can't really see why it's that big a deal anyway... he yelled, dude dropped the ball. Is it any worse than putting your cleats up when you slide into second to mess up a double play? That is actually dangerous...

It is dirty baseball. There is a unwritten code among pro players. Crap like that is busch league.

Like baseball is "clean" or something?
I guess they can throw the world series or something... Oh wait, someone already did that.
I don't see any difference in that and hiding the ball, or sliding with your cleats up.

Not a big fucking deal!
Did you guys see last night's at-bats? hahah the boston fans had blonde girl masks.. :-X
sorta like the heat fans taunting Nowitzki about David Hasselhoff during last year's finals.

if this is a big deal than trash talking should be banned from sports

is it against the rules.....NO
should he still have caught the ball.... probably
but by most players standards from what we've heard its not accepted as good sportsmanship. as i said before..even johny damon (his own teammate) said it was cheap

They can do whatever they want. But if they do something cheap players will respect them less. To a ball player respect of his pears means a lot.
-
Busch league move? Yes.
But just like Arnold talks about, being a champion athlete (be it bodybuilding or a real sport like baseball, football etc..) the mind and body should work as one. So, A-Rod exploited the opposing players weak mind.
Cheap, yes. Just like slapping the ball out of glove when the player attempts to tag you.
I would do the same thing though.
The lying, which I didn't know about till I read this thread, that wasn't cool no matter how you look at it. If he said it, no matter how amateur of a move it was, he should have copped to it 100%. I would be more concerned about the lie, than the play itself.
-

didnt a-rod do this before too?

In 04 he did it to Arroyo when the sox won it all. Umps called him on it.

Then I guess it's no big deal if the next time he's up to bat, the pitcher just happends to let loose with shot to the knee or temple?

Haha--that's great!

fuck me, there's more going on in Toronto than where I am. Pity I left. I used to love the blue jays and the maple leafs.
Sounds like fun. Glad I read your thread...
xL
did one of them get carried off?
(What's funny is that we get no Canadian news in England. All we get is terrorism and a bit of football. Wimbledon is coming up, is Rudeski still playing?
& when I was in Canada there was no news exce[pt perhaps the hockey.
I saw Wayne Gretzy whathisname once... I kissed him afterwards.
He scored.
sorry, I'm reminising.

yeah it's ok
E
No, but then he didn't TOUCH him did he?
Oh, let's not forget all of the people saying "Swing" or some shit while someone is at the plate... What's the difference?

one day I'll scream "It's mine"

Gee thats strange...Joe Morgan a hall of fame player/espn announcer stated tonight during sundays Sox/Yanks game that he sees no problem with it at all...He stated that stuff like that happend all the time in his days...And that basically it was no problem...He also stated he talked to Torre about it and that Torre was misquoted...But that he thought that if it was any other player, it wouldn't have mattered but that A-rod is a lightning rod...
Johnny Damen laughed about it and said we need to do it more ect...I'm a straight out Sox fan and don't like A-rod at all but he did nothing wrong this time...Yelling Hey when someone is about to caught a ball(give me a break)big deal...Its already been astablished that "Hey" is what he said and its Torontos players who are lying about the whole thing....The tape don't lie...
Peter Gammons has been asking infielders all around the league about this and its the majority that are saying "when you yell you got it, then you got it" and you never back off...The 3rd baseman fcked up and blow the game Period...
-
They can do whatever they want. But if they do something cheap players will respect them less. To a ball player respect of his pears means a lot.
the game has changed...Home run hitters watch the ball go out of the park before running...Just a decade ago, they would have been drilled for that...Roger Clemans thinks that stealing signs from second base should be banned...Yeah right ok...
You ever watch a catcher look up at the batter each and every time before giving a sign or getting into location...Thats because alot of batter "cheat and look back"...Again years ago they would be drilled for shit like that....I mentioned the hidden ball trick at first base that no one wants to talk about...if thats not "bush league" as you say then i don't know what is...Cut off guys pretending to cut the ball of when a guy is trying to score ect...The whole game is a game of deception...Pitchers who hide the ball before delivery have a better chance at being successfull...In tokkyo they teach that...
Lets not forget Catchers who block the plate when the ball isn't even anywhere near them...Total interferance...But if the runner coming home plows him over before the ball gets there, its more then likely benches will clear...
-
I'm a Yankee fan, and I think it's cheap, but the only reason this is a story is because it's ARod, and that the 3B sucked enough to let it work.
What bugs me, though, is how the story gets morphed. When John Dennis on WEEI asked ex As manager Ken Macha how he felt about the play he asked "how do you feel about ARod yelling "Mine-Mine-Mine"? Tony Massoroti phrased it as "Mine-Mine-Mine" as well. It was clearly not "Mine" if you watch the video, let alone "Mine" repeated three times. "Mine-mine-mine" is light years different from one "HA".
Any of you Boston guys know the story on Gerry Callahan? Did he quit? Fired? Has there been a statement?
-

I heard Morgan last night as well, in fact I had to turn the sound off because he's so annoying and to be honest hasn't had any credibility for years. I'm not saying that because of what he said about A-Rod I'm saying that because it's what most people thought long before this pop fly debacle.
This boils down to what I said in my earlier post, are you saying A-Rod is a victim now? He's being persecuted by his own Manager? By everyone else in the league that has disagreed with the play? There's two camps on this issue and you're saying the camp that disagrees with him is lying. Sorry, I don't buy that.
What he did isn't the end of the world but in my book and in MANY MANY players and Managers minds it was cheap. The third baseman clearly backed off after what A-Rod said. As you say, the video don't lie. Again, as I said earlier he's known for cheap shots. Most talented player in the world and one of the biggest bitches as well. A terrible combination.
Again, not the end of the world but a cheap shot none the less.
I'm a Yankee fan, and I think it's cheap, but the only reason this is a story is because it's ARod, and that the 3B sucked enough to let it work.

Ultimately I think you're right. If anyone other than A-Rod did this it wouldn't be nearly as big a story but I believe the reason for that is because he's had a history of cheap shots.
I don't know if he said "Ha" but he clearly didn't say "Mine, Mine Mine" or "I got it". The third baseman was a rookie and got caught off guard, he clearly backed off because he thought his shortstop called for it. The replay clearly shows that.
I don't like it when Manny or to a lesser degree Ortiz watches the ball after they hit a homerun and I'm not a fan of Youks dramatics after he's hit by a pitch or fouls a ball of his shin either. And I never liked Pedro's headhunter mentality and his disgusting physical confrontation with Zimmer. I'm not criticizing A-Rod because he's A-Rod. Some of us believe the game should be played a particular way and when it's not we're vocal about it.
As to your question about Callahan, I think it's a contract issue. From what I've heard he's being wooed by another station and he and Dennis aren't on the same page as far as staying together as a team. I don't think they particularly like each other outside of the studio. This is just snippets of what I've heard or read. As far as I know there's been no statement of mention of it by WEEI.
-
Joe Morgan is the John Madden of baseball...always stating the most stupid shit you can hear...I feel bad for his partner, (is it John Miller) I love listening to him. I alwsy get a kick out of miller when you can tell he is thinking (STFU Joe)

U hit it right on..he's such a Yankee ball washer as well....completely dismissing Fisk and the home run..its an iconic momnet in baseball and in Fenway...just like Bucky Dents ball or even Boone....hell his Reds wqon the damm series anyway....I like Miller.Goddam Papelbon..Afraud was due. >:(
