Any of you guys surgical techs or work in an OR/ER? How do you like your job? Reason being, I just got a job offer and am debating. I LOVE emergency medicine which is why I become a paramedic but, being a surgical tech would get me off the truck and into a more steady pay scale. I just want to know if it's dull and boring or if you're happy with the career path you chose? :)

be prepaired to have alot less authority then on the truck but its still fun. i worked as an EMT for less than 1 month and then switched to ER. since you have a higher medical experience I'm sure you'll do more than me but not nearly as crazy as you have been accustomed to. on the other hand its fun and alot more down time in between cases as well as being able to hang out with friends/hot nurses and it pays me a hell of alot better than EMT. good luck

That's my main reason for pursuing it. The pay. I LOVE emergency medicine above everything else but the pay sucks. For the time, effort, risk, etc. you get paid shit unless you're on a FD and that's a hard knock in itself. EMT's get very little if any appreciation man. I've been there. Keep up in the schooling and get to liscensed paramedic adn you'll be viewed a little more useful as far as skill level is concerned.

You would be bored working in an ER.
I'm an ER doctor, and our techs basically do IV starts, dressing changes, EKG's, splint applications, and transport patients.
If you're an adrenaline junkie, stay on the rig.
