When will this country ever learn?   :-\

Good life lesson for them. Rules even apply to minorities.

They don't shut the fuck up at the movies and now it's graduation ceremonies?  :-X jk

Just give them their damn diplomas. It was a big deal, but not to the point where they should be denied what they worked towards.

I know you think you sound cool saying this, but how does punishing students for other people's actions qualify as a "life lesson"?

I know you think you sound cool by protecting lack of responsibility but :They signed a contract. They then became responsible for themselves and their co-signers. Good lesson. Besides they can still get their diplomas.

I missed the part about the contract. Therefore, I retract most or my previous post.

I still take issue with your assertion that this is a lesson that rules apply to minorities as well. According to the article, there was applause from the audience for white students who faced no repercussions.  There is nothing at all to suggest that these people felt they were getting over because they were minorities.

"Principal Tom Chiles said administrators who monitored the more than 2,000-seat auditorium reported only disruptions they considered "significant," and all turned in the same five names."

Coincidence? I think not.

That's kind of interesting. That quote basically acknowledges that there were other disruptions, but the principals opted to pursue the most significant.

Although you still miss my main point.

What's to stop a group from erupting in celebration for a kid they're not even linked to, just to have that person suffer the same fate?

Before we get our 40's in a knot:

Quote
Principal Tom Chiles said administrators who monitored the more than 2,000-seat auditorium reported only disruptions they considered "significant," and all turned in the same five names.

"Race had absolutely nothing to do with it whatsoever," Chiles said. "It is the amount of disruption at the time of the incident."

The article says that the 2005 ceremony was ruined by excessive cheers and even airhorns. I for one applaud this measure because I would not want my child’s hard work and moment of glory ruined by a bunch of screaming apes. Their kids still graduate and can have their diplomas if they do 8 hrs of public service. A good lesson that these people should start acting like civilized human beings if they want to live here freely :)

Tell the schools to keep their f'n diplomas.

When they need more toilet paper, they can go to Target...where the so-called administrators are probably moonlighting.

Oh brother.  Talk about overkill.  I have never been to a graduation that was 100 percent "dignified."  Someone always claps or yells at some point when they're not supposed to, particularly at high school graduations.

I watched the special on TV about it, and they showed the video. Thing is...it was like nothing. The student walked up to get the diploma and some people applauded...it was literally nothing...sounded like 5 people clapping or something. Lasted for all of maybe 3 seconds.

And the families made the point it wasn't even them doing the actions.

Opens the whole thing up to a simple scenario; say one girl doesn't like another girl, all she has to do is tell a couple of her friends ...hey when that girl walks up to get her diploma - clap. There you go, you get that students diploma taken from them.

I support the concept, but I think the practice has to be done with some good judgement.

That's stupid.

Whoever claps/yells should be thrown out. You can't help it if your parents are morons.

where I went to school, the white kids would bring beach ball and dildos to the graduation, It got progressively worse when my sister and my brother graduated. Even the parents got into it (way to show an example to the youth).

Because Black folk got business to discuss!

It's only at university libraries that you might hear us talking, though.  Those of us who go to public libraries tend to be very quiet.

It is a numbers game and the percentage of black people who are ill raised is staggering compared their white counterparts. You will notice the exact same behaviour from white trash; conversely, upper class black people would not be caught dead disrupting others in public.

there aren't that many "upper class" black people. But you are right.. educated black people do tend be some of the best behaved.

I live in a shitty neighborhood.

That might color your perspective a bit.   :)  I've been around plenty of people of all income levels (including people with no income) and there are plenty of all races in every category.
