Clemens scratched from start
Fatigued right groin will delay Rocket's first game with Yanks
By Bryan Hoch / MLB.com

MLB Headlines

Roger Clemens has a fatigued right groin and will not pitch in the Yankees' upcoming series against the White Sox, the team announced Saturday.
Clemens will be re-evaluated in Tampa, Yankees spokesman Jason Zillo said. General manager Brian Cashman is expected to make an announcement after the team's game against the Red Sox at Fenway Park.

Clemens, 44, had been listed as the Yankees' probable starter for Monday at U.S. Cellular Field, making his first start of the season after signing a pro-rated one-year, $28 million deal with New York on May 6.

Clemens made a series of three starts in the Minor League chain, pitching for Class A Tampa, Double-A Trenton and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre before telling Yankees manager Joe Torre via e-mail that he would be prepared to pitch Monday at Chicago.

Clemens threw a flat-ground session on Friday in Houston and was expected to throw downhill off a mound in a final pre-start workout Saturday. The Yankees have not announced a new probable starter for Monday's game.

This whole situation will go down as the biggest waste of money in major league history.

I'm still shaking my head about how much money they paid Clemens...........

Wont make a difference..

We shall see... I do think it's an outrageous amount of money for a guy who won't play a whole season, but still... I think he can still pitch.

no not hating on him.
hating on stein for pating him that much.
but mainly i was talking about him getting injuries. i think hes too old to come back that quick. he didnt go through spring training(to my knowledge) and i think 3 starts in the minors isnt enough to get ready PROPERLY. which appears to be evident by him straining his groin already. because of all this i just see him getting into lots of injury trouble .

and of course hes great pitcher. but well see how good he still is after limited warm up/practice.

does anyone know if he gets paid less if he starts with the team later?......pitches fewer games?

He gets every cent when the yanks start the salery clock when he starts. If he chooses to give some back he can. Not likley.

He's got that new injury called "doesn't want to face the White Sox itus".

He wants to come back against Pittsburgh instead. This is a transparent attempt to get out of facing Chicago.

Even McCarver was ridiculing the "fatigued groin" excuse.

Man I couldn't agree more on this, no doubt he's arguably the greatest pitcher that ever played the game, but at 44 everyone has a breaking point, literally.

Turns 45 in August. Why the fuck would you pay that amount of money for a guy that old???? I don't give a shit what his resume is. That's absolutely absurd to invest that kind of money for a guy who won't even make 10 starts during the regular season. What a crock of shit.....

And what the fuck is a "fatigued groin"???? He got scratched from Monday's start because of this supposed injury.

I've lost a lot of respect for Clemens over the past couple of years. The dude's getting paid a vulgar amount of money to pitch, what, half a season worth of home games? Ever wonder how his teammates must really feel about that? I don't care who you are--noone is worth that amount of money. And as Holmes mentioned above, it's probably too little, too late.

And is it just me, or do good baseball players seem to morph into self-absorbed assholes when the don a Yankees jersey? First Clemens, then A-Roid.

Not to mention blatant special treatment. I don't care what guys say to get fans to drink the kool aid. It bothers them they cannot see there families, while Rodge can jet off to Texas any time he feels like it between starts.

I am not counting the Yankees out, but they got real old real fast. They are going to have to deal some of those big contract underachievers off if they find themselves out of it late. They are prob going to have to give up some of there prime talent to stay in contention while they rebuild.
