His conditioning was out of this world. Unfortunately for Andreas, he's paying for it as we speak.

awesome legs.

awesome legs.
i agree.....i think his quad shape is about the best ever......the shape and structure that is
im not talking about his development ....im talking about the shape he was born with
-
awesome legs.
About to say the same.
I think that shredded look wasnt only drugs, diet, etc. Also genetically a "thin" skin. But the size and shredded combo was awesome, beyond comparison.

whats that pose called. front ballerina?

I think its a lat spread/thigh pose showing the kind of quad development most of us will never acquire.
-
I think its a lat spread/thigh pose showing the kind of quad development most of us will never acquire.
its a variation of the front lat spread that shows your calves
dorian used to do the same thing when he did his ab thighs
-
Jim Quinn said Flex Wheeler was measured at 0.0% BF....I think Andreas was the only one that had that percentage. Just look at the Legs and triceps,,,,sick!
-
Business in the front, party in the back baby... But really nobody has even come close to that level of conditioning today. That is unreal straitions. Will getting that shredded really take ones life? hes so cut it looks painfull
-
few more.... ;D

ahhhh thats right forgot about some of that... ::)
-
Rumors about Andreas was he would take anything...With no disrespect, it would have been mind blowing to see what he would have done to himself if he lived thru the massive amounts of GH/slin/synthol era...
-
he's even more cut now :o but he's lost too much size to be competitive. :(

whatever happened to HMB?
I used to take that shit back in the day. Seemed to work pretty well

at least with munzer's case, no idiot has ever declared that poor genetics caused his demise
-
No wonder he was that ripped, if you saw what he took.
-

a) he couldnt afford it.
b) it would take him more time to take his weekly doses than it would to eat his weekly food.
-
i can't remember what was on that list of drugs that muntzer was supposedly taking but i recall it reading like a pharmaceutical stock order form.
i don't know how much/what he was taking but from all accounts the guy was extremely dedicated, maybe obsessed is the right terminology. he literally lived for bbing, nothing else. worked at gym, no kids, no social life, nothing but bbing 24/7.
he was a bbing monk.
-
Munzer OBVIOUSLY abused drugs - he died from them FFS. Let's not be naive and suggest anything other than that. However, that stack may be a little nuts. But he definitely something EXTREMELY crazy given that drugs killed him.

agreed..."abused" being the key word.....
theres a book by "jon hotten" called "muscle".....in it a doctor said that " Andi's liver was almost completly dissolved"....
you should read it, its a good book....focuses on dorian and kerry kayes and also andreas munzer

Hey Matt do you have any readings on what exactly Munzer died from? Did ALL of his organs shut down? I'd like to know so we could maybe dissect what drug or drugs played the biggest part in his death.

There are some good resources online that I could dig up later. Basically his liver melted. What drug or combination of drugs would cause that? I'm not exactly sure.
-
There was speculation that Cytraden eliminated any adrenal response. He was bleeding to death internally from AAS abuse and didn't even know till too late. I guess that drug amts to chemical removal of the adrenals. A normal person would know something is seriously wrong and get to the ER, he had no idea and just collapsed is the story. I think that was the most reliable story I heard. Long term massive doses of 17-alpha orals. RIP Andreas.

No pun intended...
-
to all the future BB champs ...here is a pic of Munzer today....
-
We all end up like that. The lucky ones in 1 piece. ;D
I'd rate Andreas one of the best. That says a lot about how far this BBing thing has gone.
It's hard to imagine how far it will go.... 400lbs ripped? Look at WWEs Big Show. The human Body CAN get that big.
-

Well that makes it easy if it was just his liver. Even if he was taking just a fraction of the "Munzer Cocktail," all of those orals over a long period of time will eat your liver up. Add Cytadren to that and you have successfully shut your liver down. That's too bad if that were the case because the liver is one organ that can regenerate itself. All he would of had to do was take a nice long break from any orals he was taking. Oh well.
-
it has also been stated that he was always in contest shape and never really got into an offseason weight...which of course is unhealthy in itself as the body needs bodyfat to work properly...
-
his condition was legendary but i don't think he ever came close to winning any major show.
That shows you how the judging is so bizarre.

when did he compete, he should have been mr olympia looking like this, better then yates by a long mile

yeah, i read it. it is pretty good. however, he kind of glosses over the synthol problem
-

his overall structure was poor. he was too blocky
-
Awesome conditioning..
What shows did he manage to win?
-
Too BLOCKY???? Have you not seen our CURRENT Mr. Olympia, with absolutely NO striations ANYWHERE to be found on his entire body? We reward refrigerators like Cutler and men like Munzer never even placed.
-
hepatis peliosis was supposedly what he died from.
he had a bunch of blood filled cysts.
i have an article that tries to explain it all. ill find it.
-
how he ever lost the 93 NOC is beyond me. he had mass and his super cuts at that show.
even in the "hush about politics" 90's the mags were making noises that Porter won the show because of politics...
-
his overall structure was poor. he was too blocky
lmao poor structure???....too blocky?
can tell you read that somewhere and you're just repeating it....
munzer had great structure....he was a bit narrow but his muscle bellies where great especially legs and lats from the front......too blocky is nonsense....
how long have you been a fan of bodybuilding??? im curious ::)
-
I would NOT call Munzer "BLocky".
Tim Belkenap & Rich Gaspari, I would call BLocky, but both great BBers.
-
There is a video of Munzer on youtube of him posing at one of the Arnold Classics I believe. The commentator makes some comment like he is a little below his normal conditioning today, and appears to be living off his striations. Haha I could'nt believe it when I heard it. What a jackass
-
Again, the blockiest guy around is the current Mr. Olympia.
-
you guys do realize that munzer competed against the likes of Lee Haney and Shawn Ray...Saying he should have won an olympia is silly...
-

I've been following it since the early-90s
look, his structure was poor. simple as that. I'm not saying Cutler's structure is great or anything, but I definitely think Cutler is better now than Munzer ever was.

Yup, the structure killed him. Didn't help that he was a really poor poser.
Regarding his death it could have been a bleeding ulcer for all we know. Autopsy results were sealed. All that is know: internal bleeding, refusal of transfusion by Munzer, death.
-
MUNZER'S ability to get ripped was second too none ,and when he posed his muscle popped and fibrous striations all over, but as stated above regarding structure a top 5 guy he was not due to his overall look.bbers are judged relaxed and his structure viewed relaxed was not on par with his fellow competitior's.
-
The account of his death that has been documented and posted can only be described as horribly lingering and full of agony. It was painful just to read it.
-

I had never heard that one... Don't know if we will get an answer 13 years on, anyone else heard that mentzer refused a transfusion?

After months of stomach pain, Münzer was admitted to hospital on the morning of March 12, 1996. By 7pm, doctors had decided to operate to stop bleeding from his stomach, but his liver and kidneys failed shortly afterwards. His condition by this point was too severe for a blood transfusion, and he died on the morning of March 14 at the age of 31.[1][2] The autopsy gave the cause of death as dystrophic multiple organ failure.[3]
Some of the specific autopsy findings were an extremely muscular physique with an almost complete absence of subcutaneous fat, a liver that contained numerous table tennis ball-sized tumors (with half the liver consisting simply of a crumbly mass that was similar to polystyrene), shriveled testes, and cardiac hypertrophy (Münzer’s heart weighed 636g; a normal man’s heart usually weighs 300–350g).[3]
Münzer’s electrolytes were also out of balance, and his potassium levels were extremely high. Traces of about 20 different drugs were found, along with acute toxicity (perhaps caused by a stimulant). Schwarzenegger sent a wreath to Münzer’s funeral in Styria, with the message: “A last greeting to a friend.”

Cost killed it. I think related to licensing?

This is a totally awesome front lat spread. Up there with Dorian Yates! Munzer was actually one of the greats! I remember seeing a photo of Andreas walking in a park with a muscular black woman (girlfriend?) and he looked unreal. She was muscular but he totally dwarfed her!
And look at Arnold doing the FLS. Not too bad at all! This was not his signature pose but he pulls it off really well. Better than most I would say except for Andreas, Dorian, Haney and a few others. I never liked Ronnie's FLS.

Wow that's crazy! I recall reading about the horrible way he died.
Interesting to note that Dallas McCarver's heart was actually quite a bit bigger than Munzer's. It weighed 833 g vs 636 g for Munzer.

Why Legendary Bodybuilder Who Died With Almost Zero Body Fat Lives On
Andreas Munzer is the gold standard and a cautionary tale for bodybuilders.
Austrian bodybuilder Andreas Munzer, who died 19 years ago this month, remains both the gold standard and a cautionary tale for men striving for the ripped, lean look the sport demands.
Although it could not be confirmed, he appears to have died from multiple organ failure, the likely result of years of alleged anabolic steroid abuse. He was 31, and easily recognizable from the images that have gone viral in recent days.
Munzer’s autopsy revealed he had almost 0 percent body fat, the legend goes. Such a small amount of body fat could have hastened his demise, experts say.
“You need body fat for cellular function, energy use and to pad the joints and organs,” said Carol Garber, professor of movement sciences at Columbia University in New York City. “Having too little can lead to nutritional deficiencies, electrolyte imbalances and malfunction of the heart, kidney and other organs.”
Men require at least 3 percent body fat and women at least 12 percent in order for the body to function properly, Garber said. Below that is where you start to see serious health problems. Sometimes it leads to organ failure and death, she added.
But despite the risks, Munzer’s pictures and profile frequently go viral on bodybuilding forums all these years later because of the sports’ perpetual obsession with stripping every last ounce of adipose tissue from their body, according to Brian Washington, commissioner of the United States Bodybuilding Federation.
“Percentage of body fat is a major issue with bodybuilders,” Washington said. “They devote a lot of their efforts and money on products to go as low as they can possibly go.”
Others agree. “There are still some bodybuilders obsessed about their numbers who take their body fat percentage readings on a regular basis readers,” said Louis Zwick, the producer of Musclemania, a bodybuilding and fitness competition production company, adding that even those who don’t care about an exact percentage do care about getting as ripped as possible for competition.
Zwick, who said he was part of the film crew that taped Münzer’s last competition before his death 10 days later, said the Austrian was very lean but doubts his body was completely absent of fat.
“I’ve never really seen anyone who really had zero body fat,” he said. “You just can’t be. You wouldn’t survive.”
But it is possible to get down to so little body fat it becomes unmeasurable by standard methods, Columbia’s Garber said. Pinching the skin to measure the thickness of fat just below the surface is the most common way of measuring body fat percentage, she said. It wouldn’t be precise enough to estimate the degree of accuracy needed to make such a claim, she said.
The average bodybuilder is probably between 3 and 5 percent body fat, at least during competition season, Musclemania producer Zwick estimated. Some cycle up in weight during the off-season but as the sport has moved toward a more natural look in the past decade, many strive to stay in shape all year long, he said.
Munzer, Zwick said, was leaner than most. He was always muscled up and stripped of fat.
“That’s why he’s still a legend today,” he said.

Depends how you look at things, people are still talking about him 30 years after he's gone, he's a legend in the bodybuilding world. Most go through life without much accolades, led alone achieving something that their peers will revere them for 30 years after they are gone.

Autopsy said his liver was like styrofoam if I recall correctly.

Go on a shooting rampage, or become a serial killer, you’ll be talked about 30 years later and be a legend

I'm not saying that's my outlook, but let's get real what are most peoples most notable achievements? Graduating college, marriage, kids, possible promotion upgrading from a cubicle to your own office, winning employee of the month. That's all I'm saying, he achieved professional status in a sport he loved, he gave it his all, he is in fact known and is still talked about to this day as the most conditioned bodybuilder of all time. Again not my opinion, but that's a viewpoint you can make. He died doing what he loved so maybe to him it was worth it.

Only his close family would have access to those infos.
'celebrity news' BS !.

a) he couldnt afford it.
b) it would take him more time to take his weekly doses than it would to eat his weekly food.
steroids are cheap and available for most pros, and amdreas was from germany.
supposedly andreas's "manager" (i believe the manager also owned a gym and andreas worked there as well as a trainer or something) "required" Andreas to maintain that look year-round for appearances and guest posings and such, and that meant using "harsher" drugs usually used for short periods pre-contest... drugs that didn't aromatize and generally a lot of orals (heavy long-term halotestin, drol, oral and inj winstrol, & all the other shit).
i thought i'd heard he was using 2 "anti-cortisol"(anti-adrenal) drugs, cytadren of course being one of them. i forget what the other would've been.
his liver being like styrofoam id assume it'd be like comparing a "sponge" in the sea, and when it "dies", it's more like dead/hard coral.
