Haven't hit 400 yet, highest I have ever been was 375...I change the style I bench with every couple of weeks though so my bench is always changing...I would love to hit 400 though just because...

I used to train with a 19 year old in high school who benched 420  :'( 100% Natural. no shit.

He squatted 500 and deadlifted 500. Real beast he was. I can prove this too.

I can workout with 315 on incline I don't know what the max I have used on it is though probably not much higher...

funny you say that....but I felt the same way.  One day it occurred to me I was over 300

when I did over 400...the adrenaline kicked & instead of doing 1 rep I ended up doing a full set of 8

I guess I hold too much back.

At 18 I did 140kg which I think is 315in lbs. for 2 reps. Now at 20 I can do that for about 8 reps. Been training since I was 15. So about 3 years to break it.

Also have done 315lbs on the incline this year.

I hear it quite alot, but more so "I fucked up my shoulders so I cant train legs because the bar irritates my rotator cuff" but these guys still hammer out 20 sets for chest. lol

hahahaha, or the guys who can't squat because of bad knees yet they're doing quarter reps with 13 plates on each side of the leg press. ;D

I can crank out 315 for 3-4 crappy reps and I seldom go that high, I do a lot of pre-exhaution before I press anyway.

hahahahaha, ahhh the old "pre exhaust" theory, hahahahaha, yeah because if you started with benches you'd be doing 600 for 15, right? ;D :o

no Squadfather,

for me, when I don't do prehaution I feel it in my tricep also. But when I prehaution I usually get a better chest work out and less arms interaction.

but I don't prehaut I can crank out a few more reps..but not more weight.

yes and of course you wouldn't want to do MORE reps with the heavier weight because you don't want to build TOO MUCH size heaven forbid, right? ;D

first day i walked into the gym i went ahead and benched 315. i was like, "yeah, that felt good. next?"

people told me i was a natural and would be the next mr olympia and shit, but i didn't want to do that. i was more after tone and general fitness for the mma. dana told me he didn't want me all muscle bound and tight when i stepped in the octagon with couture.

so i prefer light weights these days. you know, 5 sets of 25 with 405. nothing too heavy in case i get too bulky. don't want to get too big. i mean, how the fuck am i supposed to rip a man's heart out and show it to him all beating and shit if i've got 24" arms ??? obviously, i'm not going to be able to get that big ass arm inside his chest cavity without leaving a big ol mess. so, yeah, i just keep my arms slender and toned at 20". that way i maintain the cat like quickness. wait, there, did you see that? :o exactly. 8)

anyway, i've got to go do some stretching between some chairs for the adductors.

i know exactly what you mean Steele.

you got to go for the burn. mind - muscle connection.

i've got an excellent pre-exhaution trick for you that will make that fat ass, Squadfather green with envy. :D

i stand straight up with my chest out, make like a duck and pull my arms back and forward repetitively whilst chanting,

"i must, i must, i must increase my bust..."

i do this for a full 5 minutes and then i do my 5 sets of 25 with 405.

by the time i'm finished my pecs are pumped to the max and my tris are nice and fresh, ready for my terrorising tris pre-exhaustion giant set workout. wait 'til i tell you about that one, it's a killer. i'll save that one for another thread though. :D

I remember exactly what gym i was at and when i first benched 225 lbs then 315 lbs then 405 lbs

(on a 500 lb attempt i tore my pec)

225 took the longest.......i remember for years i just wanted to be able to put 225 lbs on the bench
by-myself, and bench it for a few reps (golds gym gloucester mass)

315 wasn't that long after i finally got 225 lbs (maybe a year or 2) (world gym beverly mass)

405-500 (nautilus plus danvers mass)...........i weighed over 300 lbs at the time

fun times with great training partners..............mi ss those days!

Not ALWAYS useless for everyone. I do feel the exercise in my chest. A good buddy of mine never benches because he only feels it in his front delts.

But I begin with incline bb.

i stopped benching heavy because the serrated bar was bruising my sternum, then i stopped squatting because the bar was making my neck sore.  Now i just do flyes and leg extensions and eat lots of soy.

::)  yes, flyes and leg extensions will create epic mass when replacing bench presses and squats
