I was on a popular powerlifting site and here's how they describe bodybuilders:
Bodybuilder, n. A weight lifter too weak to be a powerlifter
Powerlifter, n. A weight lifter too fat to be a bodybuilder
hilarioussssss ;D
-
obviously neither one of them has heard of johnnie jackson and kamali. ::)
-
I would say it's harder to go from bodybuilder to powerlifter than the other way around
-
Just the opposite.Bodybuilders always disrespect powerlifters.Just on this site alone you get the "hes fat" "hes cheating by wearing a shirt" etc etc etc.The of cource, you have the lying factor, where bodybuilders lie about their numbers.Like when Johnnie Jackson claims he can squat 815 with ZERO gear, but somehow manages only an 821 in full gear.Thats an obvious lie.So its bodybuilders who are by far more disrespectfull.

maybe his gear's faulty.
seriously, powerlifters, olympic weightlifters, bbers, strongmen, drug users, wannabe drug users, drug users that say they're natural, drug users that say they're wannabe drug users, ...ok, getting a bit carried away, but the point i'm making is that all of the above have been known to bitch about each other.
stems from a combination of elitism and insecurity.
shame really, because if they united all would prosper.
i think it all started with bob hoffman and joe weider, but that's a story for the history section.

Exactly!

I think the reason for this is that there are a lot more imature kids playing Bodybuilding than Powerlifters.
-
Yep, as mentioned, it goes both ways.

At the Chattanooga show last weekend, a guy named Byrd who set the world record for the squat for a 198-pounder at 1,003 pounds competed in the Heavyweight division. He finished dead last. The guy who won the class had him DESTROYED on legs, as did the guy who took second. His legs were so far behind the other 2 guys regarding developement it was laughable.
It's not how much you can lift...it's how much you LOOK like you can lift.

Both are usually...... broke losers. ;D

Its how much you look like you can lift in the sport of bodybuilding,in the sport of powerlifting NO ONE cares what you look like. The fact is,if it doesnt matter what you lift, why do so many bodybuilders lie about what they can lift.Apparently,it means a huge deal to them because they outright lie about their numbers time and time again.I will be waiting for the Kovacs video of the 700 pound inclines that he claims he smokes.

He was soft as a marshmellow at the show that day and night. Not sure what he did/didn't do in the couple days leading up to it but he did something drastically wrong. His legs were just smooth and soft. He actually had the worst legs in his class, or at least he would have been in the running for last.
Squatting 1003 is still an incredible feat, though.
