I saw them down at Club Industry last year. $ Incredibly expensive $ :o May be useful in a rehab environment or an Olympic/elite training facility. A friend of mine has a knock off, which he swears is just as good for his use. I went thru a workout with him on it :-\ It was okay :-\ A rather weird sensation.

Humans are built to adapt to moving weight. I'm not sure how well equiped we are to deal with being vibrated!
Weird, weird, weird.
Weird.

We own the Itonic by Freemotion (http://www.itonic-international.com/english/) and it's great for flexability, stability and for rehab.
The NSCA just did a study with some promising results about increased range of motion and flexability when using a vibration plate vs. not. Still, more studies are needed but I think it's a decent piece of the puzzle if you can get your hands on one (ours is a demo piece ;D).

Thanks all and Mike I intend to check out that site thanks

Mike, do you use it as a supplement to your regular workouts? If so, what type of progress did you (and whomever else is using it) notice?
Do you know the cost of a new machine?
Any further comments you have would be appreciated :)

looks like another "ab lounger" to me... ;D

hehehe... "ab lounger" reminds me of those belts they used to sell that vibrated. The commercial would show people sitting around watching TV talking about what a good workout they were getting ..I don't think this is in that category though?

HAHA! Or those torture devices that look like a car battery with "strategically placed" contacts all over your body to "stimulate" you with small shocks of electricty? KINKY! ;D
I've read about it but I'm not sure I fully understand what that thing is supposed to do. Vibrate the hell outta you?

Here are some claims on the Power Plate website:
"Power Plate has become an important training and injury/rehab device for the Chicago Bulls.
Power Plate has proven to be a very effective and popular training modality with our players and has demonstrated impressive results even after a short period of use - increasing their strength, flexibility, metabolism and circulation. All of our players are reaping benefits from using the Power Plate - improving their speed/quickness, jumping ability, balance and coordination. Additionally, Power Plate has proved to be a good remedy to soreness and pain reduction, while accelerating the injury / rehab cycle."

Benefits : Fitness
Power Plate® machines are a great alternative for people who enjoy an active lifestyle, but do not have the time for a lengthy work-out three or more times a week. Acceleration Training™ exercise using Power Plate® machines offers a number of important benefits that will help fitness goals easily be achieved or exceeded. These benefits range from an immediate improvement in blood circulation, to a variety of other measurable outcomes, such as increased muscle strength and flexibility, better range of motion, better core conditioning and stability, and faster recovery and regeneration.
"I love that with the Power Plate, I can get a full workout at home in next-to-no time.
I really am impressed with the machine's ability to target and recruit specific muscles and improve my flexibility at the same time. It just feels good."
Benefits : Wellness
You don’t have to be an athlete or in need of physical therapy to benefit from using Power Plate® machines. There are health benefits possible for everyone, such as enhanced metabolism, increased bone mineral density, reduction of the stress hormone cortisol, elevation of Human Growth Hormone and improved lymphatic flow. Power Plate® machines help the body in all these ways with little impact on joints and ligaments, and without always feeling like traditional “exercise.”
Benefits : Medical
The biomechanical applications of Acceleration Training™ exercise using Power Plate® machines are becoming accepted in the medical field for the prevention and treatment of different types of illnesses and injuries. Power Plate® machines allow people with osteoporosis, arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and Parkinson's Disease to exercise while working within their personal physical limitations, while also aiding in the treatment of the symptoms from these debilitating conditions. We feel fortunate to be able to provide a device that has helped so many people face the many conditions of life. However, as with all medical applications, and to ensure your safety, you should consult your physician and address any contraindications before using any Power Plate® machine
"We are still excited about the response we are getting from our clients.
One of our MS patients is walking so much better with improved balance and gait. Another client with osteoporosis just had a bone scan and despite just working out sporadically for three months she experienced her first increase in bone density after being on Actonel and Fosamax for several years."

I use it occasionally after a hard leg workout to stretch my hamstrings, hipflexors and massage my calves (which you do lying down so it's pretty awesome). I have a few of my clients perform some basic exercises (v-sits, pushups, 1-legged squats, toe touches...) to get a little variety but we don't use it a ton.
I haven't charted any specific progress using it with my clients since it's just another weapon on the arsenal. I do think it has it's place in a gym, or rehab, and the research is beginning to show that. It has an immediate affect on your flexability right after you perform a series of stretches on it but, obviously, they don't last forever.
I think it retails for about 9K. We got ours becuase the owner of my gym is a Freemotion rep.
