All right, while the east coast has this show that King Kamali is putting up, the west coast, namely Pasadena, California has the NPC Junior California, promoted by none other than Lonnie Teper himself, the best emcee in bodybuilding. This should be a record breaking show, as competitors already entered into this show has exceeed last years numbers, and more to come.
Guest poser at this show is the #1 bodybuilder in the world, Jay Cutler himself, who will spend time greeting all of the fans, coming out to enjoy the show and having some fun!
Also, I will be there, so come SUPPORT the show, and have some fun. Free samples will be given out, and the pictures will be up at bodybuilding.com, graphicmuscle.com, musculardevelopment.com, and of course, Getbig.com.
Will bring a video camera to have some fun, so see you there.

NICE HAT!! :'(
-
Yes Keith, it was originally your hat. The story goes that at the Arnold Classic, when we were discussing the prejuding and it was cold outside, Lonnie Teper borrowed the hat from Keith, and decided to keep it, knowing that Dan Solomon will give him another one.
The look on Keith's face was priceless, like he had lost his most prized possesion! It was pretty funny! But alas, I took care of it, as we went to the VIP Dinner that evening!

I tried to get Ron to take tequila shots at the mini bar and then go ask Arnold why do they call it Ovaltine when it's in a round jug. Special Ed would have done it...
As for the hat, I'm still bitter, he better wear the hell out of it

Junior Cal Fastest Growing Contest in NPC
Two years ago I was wondering if I should even put on the NPC Junior California Bodybuilding and Figure Championships anymore. I created the event in 1999 (holding it at the beautiful Sexson Auditorium on the campus of Pasadena City College, one of the two school’s I teach at ) as the California Collegiates, open only to registered college students in California. It did well for a while, then the numbers went south.
I then changed the name to the Western Collegiates, opening it up to any college student in the western states. Didn’t make a difference. In 2003 I changed the show to “The Junior California and Western Collegiates Championships”–two events in one, in you will. Again, no real change in my numbers.
A final name change came about in 2004: My show offically became strictly the Junior Cal, but I still included a Collegiate division (and Teen) division. I may be the only show, or at least one of very few, that has a collegiate class within a regular NPC show (not counting the Collegiate Nationals, of course).
Two years ago I only had 36 competitors, and really thought about chucking the whole thing. Then, last year, the numbers nearly doubled to 65! Bingo, it was catching on! I had six in the Teen division last year, including a kid who drove all the way from Utah to enter. I think I’ll have more than that this year. Justin Hunter won the Teens last year, and will be back in the Collegiate class.
I figured out part of the problem; too many people were confused about what the contest was all about, with many still thinking they had to be a college student to compete. Actually, that still is a minor concern, but I’m happy to say it looks like the Junior Cal has finally found it’s niche.
With nine days to go before “game day” (check out the event website at www.npcjuniorcal.com) I have 55 entry forms in hand. A year ago, at the same time, I had 29 or 30. I went into the contest with 33 entries, and got another 32 to sign up the day of the contest for the record 65. That record will be shattered on June 23!
I had 22 women compete in Figure last year; I have 23 in hand now and several contestants have told me their entry forms are on the way (ditto for several men contestants). I fully expect at least 70-75 to compete this year, possibly more. And, this is NOT counting crossovers. I might even have to add a fourth class in Figure this year, a very nice problem to have.
Of course, having the newly crowned Mr. Olympia as my featured guest poser won’t hurt tickets sales any. Yup, Jay Cutler will be on stage at PCC, keeping his promise he made to me and the fans years ago that not only would he guest pose again for me, but would be back as the sport’s number one bodybuilder.
There will be plenty of other stars at the show as always. And some great competitors. Kiyoshi Moody is entering; so is big Bryan Yersky, coming all the way out from Columbus, Ohio. And, Daniel Church is a 20-year old who is coming all the way from Alaska to compete in the Collegiate, Novice and Open classes.
‘Nuff said for now. Keeping checking back here for contest updates leading into the show. Click on the thumbnail for the full size poster.

Excellent weekend at the Junior Nationals in Chicago...
Spoke to LT. 295 pounds - that is how much Jay Cutler weighs at the moment, and is really looking forward to LT's show. It was only a few years ago that Jay told Lonnie that he will be back once he becomes Mr. Olympia, and he is honouring his world. This years NPC Junior California will have the most entries ever! See you there.
Kiyoshi Moody, who won the San Diego and Max Muscle Naturals in March, has entered the show. Moody says he needs more stage time in his preparation for the Team Universe three weeks later, where LT says he could win his class.

I thought that was what you had gotten up to Ronbo. LOL! Should be a great show for LT. I'd love to make it but I will be on the East Coast covering the King Kamali Classic.
We'll expect some good photos from this show Ron.

Im Looking forward to this weekends show! I was a competitor 5 years ago when it was called the California Collegiate. The show was a blast. I competed in the show again the next year and have been in attendance ever since. See you guys there!

Ha - no, actually losing some weight now. With LT and Cutler and their humor, it should all be fun. Throw in Shawn Ray, and the conversations get more interesting. Will have some good pictures. Have fun with Kamali and Jan Tana across the country.

He's in business because he fired you as co-promoter years ago... If he listened to you the show wouldn't make it past it's second year...
;D

Shawn will be there to support LT's NPC Jr California.... know you don't know what happened a long time ago, and what issues there were, but Shawn will be there to support.

I had a great time, I've known Lonnie 22yrs now and sitting in the audience replaying all those years in my mind while he was at the mic, I am happy to say, thanks for hanging in there bro, you truly bring alot to the game, sport and the fans not to mention the athletes! ;)
Nice job!
Peace,
S. Ray
