Title: Bernard Hopkins vs Winky Wright...................
Post by: The Enigma on June 12, 2007, 01:16:54 PM
Who's your pick for this July 21st fight?

I like Wright in a decision.

I think Winky will press the action in this one.  The better the competition the better Winky fights.  What I'm trying to say is Winky will put on a clinic and take either a decision or late TKO in the 10th.

Why boring? Wright beat the sh*t out of Mosley 2x, Trinidad, Jermain Taylor (go robbed w/ a draw) and recently destroyed Ike Quartey.

Hopkins just recently be Tarver for the Lt HW Title.

Why would this be boring?

They are both cautious fighters, B-hop usually dosen't turn it on for five or six rounds and Winky usually just turtles up and counter punches.  Hopefully they prove me wrong.

Clearly, you know little about boxing.

Winky Wright's punch count is consistently over a 1000.

Yeah.......cautious.  ::)

Winky is a defensive fighter, he hasn't knocked out an opponent in a while, his style is boring but it wins fights.

i say if it goes the distance Hopkins by decision...but Winky(the fuck you coming into the boxing world with that name i don't know) has a good chance of knocking him out..i'd predict around the 8th round..

If Winky presses the action early and makes Hopkins have to work in the early rounds the fight is his. If he allows Hopkins to hang around too long its Hopkins fight.

Wright has never lost a fight either. His 3 "losses" were all BS "split decisions." Plus the BS "draw" in Jermain Taylor's hometown. LOL LOL

Wright was jobbed against..... Vargas, Simon, Vasquez.

51-3-1........... should be 55-0 25ko's

I'm not doubting Hopkins ability to win this fight, but you can't use his fights against Trinidad and Taylor to say that he will beat Winky. Styles make fights. Taylor is a bull. He doesn't have the skills or the stamina that Winky has. Taylor hits hard, has a lot of heart, is very aggressive, and from what I've seen, he can take a punch. Trinidad is a straight ahead stalker type fighter as well. He had only a puncher's chance against Hopkins which wasn't much of a chance since he wasn't a full fledged middleweight, just a blown up welterweight. He wasn't going to outbox him nor was he going to out last him. Winky on the other hand has the stamina and skills to put B-Hop to the test. I like both fighters. This is a tough one to call. ???

The only thing that bothers me about this fight is Hopkins made Wright move up to 170 (catch) for this fight. Wink spent most his career at 54.....moved up to 60 and destroyed Trinidad. An ass whipping worse than a KO.

Winky is not a knockout fighter, never has been, he has a slick boxing style that allows him to win boring decision fights. Hopkins is getting old, fuck that, he's what 40 something, he has been out of the ring for a while, Winky should be able to outbox him.

875 of those are probably jabs.

Hopkins is 42, Wink is 35.

Hopkins just beat Tarver in his last fight.

I expect Wink to box the ears off Hopkins............just like he did to Trinidad and Mosley.

Oh you mean turtle up and throw a shit load of jabs?  Sounds like a candidate for fight of the year, hopefully we don't see the Winky that almost lost to Soliman.

BTW, Wink fought Soliman with the flu and still beat his ass.

You are clearly a biased Wright fan if you say he beat Soliman's ass, that fight was alot closer than just a one sided beating, whatever his excuse was.  I just hope he doesen't come out as if he has something to prove like he did against Taylor or Vargas and try to just stand there and bang it out.  He needs to stick to his roots and win a decision.  In other words do what he usually does, "fight not to lose", not "fight to win".

Guys like you would rather see Mayorga. A Shit fighter with his hands down while getting KO'ed.

I enjoy the "science of boxing"

I'm a bigger fan of the "blood and guts" style mexican fighters, body attacks, sick left hooks, decent chins. (the Marquez brothers,J.L.Castillo,M.A.Barrera, Jorge Arce, Margarito)  They may get hit a little bit more than your hero Wright, but they bring it.

Everytime Winky doubled up on his jab Soliman stopped in his tracks for at least a good thirty seconds.  Winky landed the more effective punches and outclassed him.

Nobody here would like to see Bernard win this fight more than me,  he's one of my favorites.  I just think Winky's volume will be way too much for him to handle.
