MIT and cambridge rate below harward..LMAO ::)
harward = $
MIT = pure smarts
Cambridge = both
-
Got a cousin at Cornell and the little fuck is the pride of the family.
If I had the money I'd be in a Ivy league school no problem.
-
Interesting list. If it included "colleges" Amherst and Swarthmore would be near the top of the list.
-
i can believe my 3 were not mentioned :D
-
That list is questionable. UVa is always in the top 2 of public universities in the country (with either Cal Berkely or Michigan). Also, it is always one of 3 public schools in the US's top 25. How is it not there?
Your telling me Duke is below 31 schools?
Please...
FYI camel i got into Cornell but unfortunally I didnt have the loot nor did I want to be saddled with student loans...I am glad I chose UVa
-
Just about every other school in the nation likes to bash UVA kids for being 'pretentious' and 'snobs.' In other words, they get called out for thinking they're better than everyone else. Well, if you went to the school in Virginia with the most stringent admissions requirements, best overall athletic program, most beautiful campus and coeds, most successful and famous alumni, the most storied social scene, was founded by Thomas Jefferson, and all that happened to be in what was voted the #1 city to live in America, well you'd think you were the shit too."
-ESPN's review of college campuses
-
Cornell = SUNY Ithaca
UVA is where it deserves to be.
-
PS. where is UVA? ???
Should be above UMD at least.
-
wtf . . . that list is pretty screwed beyond the top 11.
-
yeah...im sure its hard to rate across countries
-
brown? harvard? come mon...they're legacy driven and everybody knows it. that list is messed up. and what japanese schools are mention or any in asia?
-
hahah #43 Rutgers baby!!! hahah
-

My sis lives and works near Harvard square in cambridge, mass. That school has lots of asians and south asians. ;D
"Legacy driven"? I don't think so.. I've met some of my sis' friends who are alums and students, and they're very smart people.
Harvard being full of model minorities should tell you that not everyone enrolled got in because of a rich daddy. ::)
-
school is gay
-
yeah...im sure its hard to rate across countries
The listing is done by an independent organization in Asia I think.
-
hahah #43 Rutgers baby!!! hahah
Pretty good state school. Even has a good football team now.

I can't believe Tokyo University is only 20th.
That list is questionable. Tokyo Daigaku is absolute elite.

Not to question some of the elite Universities in China were the competition is on a scale several times greater than anywhere else on earth.

not necessarily......roughly half of china's billion population are barely literate

idiot.
what has that to do with university rankings??
you need only 300-600 people to make up a great university of international standards, and in china you have so fucking large numbers of students it's amazingly scary.
Think about how many dumbasses there are in the US, you also have many people that cannot read nor write.

Believe me, the competition for China's top few Universities is like nothing else on Earth.
China has 1.3 Bil people, with your statement that leaves 0.65 Bil, lets then go on to say 0.5% are genius's (according to IQ test), roughly 32,500,000.

it's probably a lot less though. i know some 'genuine' chinese, born and raised there.
their university and school education sucks ass big time, they only learn BS, that's why the smartest have to go abroad to steal study information there.
Normal school day in china looks like this:
0800: greeting, morning appeal
0825: national anthem
0830: first class: Mao's classics
0930: second class: Mao's scriptures
1030: third class: english lesson: "The Great Mao Tsetung"
1130: fourth class: Mao's favorite dishes
1230: break, national anthem
1330: fifth class: PE: Mao's favorite Tai Chi moves
1430: last class: Mao's classics reprise
1530: interrogation of students about who said something against china this day
1730: execution of delinquents in the schoolyard, ripping organs for the west, extracting secret ingredient of "jintropin" from bodies.
;D ;D

in china, the secret police would be knocking at your door in 3...2....1.... knock knock and deport you and your family. ;D ;D
-
idiot.
what has that to do with university rankings??
you need only 300-600 people to make up a great university of international standards, and in china you have so fucking large numbers of students it's amazingly scary.
Think about how many dumbasses there are in the US, you also have many people that cannot read nor write.
We do? The literacy rate is 99% in the USA.

Don't count on it.
Literacy rate in the US is clearly one of the highest in the world, but the measuring is very questionable.
They go by the schools and then estimate the actual figure. Good idea, but it actually misses the problem. Everyone who has visited a school should be able to read and write.
There are a lot of immigrants and old people in the US that are illiterate. Also remember illiterate people are not dumb, they are able to hide their flaws very good but they cannot read nor fill out the questionnaire which asks if they are illiterate. ;D ;D
-
I'd place the literacy rate in NYC's poor neighborhoods at around 65-75%..
Stats lie sometimes.
Like I go to certain food places and see some black and spanish folks that can't even read out the food lables, so they point with great frustration. hahaha ;D
If you asked me the percentage for reading comprehension and writing skills, then I'd say 50% of pople in NYC are below the mark.
They DON'T want to hold the communities responsible, so they blame it on "racism" and unequality in society. Most second generation model minorities(asians, indians, eastern europeans) are very literate in the english language and have college graduation rates of well over 50%, while blacks still struggle despite affirmative action and having more money thrown at them.

Not a paki, unless you're using it as a generic term.
Don't be so bitter just because you got stuck with a bunch of crazies across the pond.. ;)

Very good statement!
If you don't count simple 'knowing the ABC' but really understanding a text and the information it provides, i would say 50% is a fair guess, depending on which text it is.
Studies in german schools show that immigrant children cannot even understand german comic books or simple fictional stories.

It was a joke, note the irony in what I was saying.
Eat more fish, it's good for the brain, it'll make you SHARP kidder!
-
I dunno about immigrant children, but immigrants are pretty bad when it comes to the english language.
Being able to not only read, write, but also comprehend is a skill that even many professionals lack(here in the states). It's pretty sad and it's gonna bite america in the ass thanks to the emerging global economy.
Those Japs, Koreans and Chinese people will kick our asses. :-\ We have the capacity to fix this problem, but it involves doing things that are politically incorrect.

yes, they are very friendly and open.
I dated a chinese girl a few years ago and i she never introduced me to her friends. We broke up because she could not stand being mocked on by other chinese for dating a 'foreigner'. This all happened in germany.

generally speaking, i prefer japanese over chinese, but there are very nice chinese women too, especially if assimilated.
'genuine' chinese so to speak have a bad style, nearly no clue of how to behave in public and are ignorant over other cultures. At least that's my experience.
I have seen a lot of tourist groups when i went on vacation in germany last week, and you can tell the difference between jap and chinese from 300 meters just by the clothes. ;D
