The legendary TA has said this
Obviously this must be true, you can see it in his leg development:

I just want to thank you TA, you have opened my eyes.
Actually id agree... I may not have the leg size to back it up but i feel squats and leg extensions are best for peak contraction of the quads and getting a good pump in them.

try squatting ass to floor with pauses (at the bottom) moderately heavy and you will see the diffrence

I have done that. I used to do 275 butt to heels and then explode up. I noticed the best results from going down really slow on the negative and then resting 2 seconds and exploding up with light weight at the end of a work out but i no longer do that. I like my current leg program. Sometimes i add some light front squats in towards then end.

Anything but heavy squats by the looks of it.

10 sets of 12 of leg press, 6 sets of 12 of single legged leg press, 10 sets of 12 of leg extensions and sometimes if i feel like it i do some front squats towards the end. Total of about 26 sets, 30 seconds rest between sets.

Yes pretty much... Im not capable of squatting heavy since i lost all the weight and i feel it uses more muscles then the ones i want to isolate.

haven't heard that excuse before. i'll give you that.

Hey to each his own.. heavy compound lifting isn't for everyone.

Such as the ones in your legs?

Such as lower bacl, abdominals, glutes, etc... With extensions i can isolate all quad and when i do leg press i feel i can go heavier and deeper and rep it out with out compromising my safety.

Seriously, at your stage of bbing, imo, you aught to be doing compound lifts specifically to hit as many muscles as possible.
Not so much to build the muscle as to build your lungs and heart...and get more natural test flowing.
'course not all compounds, but some at each workout.

This is the same thing I do.

I moved to leg presses because I had two hernias and they allow me to go "heavy" without too much pressure on my abdominable wall.
Also, 10 years of soccer have taken their toll on my knees, blew side tendon on my left side.
So the presses give me the limited range of motion, protection and isolation I just can't get with squats. As long as you keep the intensity up you can get a great workout.
I've done whole leg workouts on the presses when I was short of time. I had a press with two angles for feet placement, so I would do Giant sets, 12 reps of feet apart, feet together, lfeet angled forward and then lockout the press and do 25-30 reps of calf raises. Take two minute break and do it again. In 30 minutes you can move some serious weight and really feel it the next day...or at least I can.

Squats are king!
-
Pistols (one legged squats) are probably the best overall leg exercise.

damn man that's a lot of sets, you have a lot of endurance, no way i could do 26 sets of barbell squats and leg presses.

He doesn't do that, shit for brains. Read it carefully, he said he DOESN'T DO squats. He only perform leg presses, 2 legs and then one leg as his pressing movements for the lower body. Eventually he will end up his workout with LIGHT FORNT SQUATS.
Even withou the squats, still a hell of a lot of work. Very respectable. Heavy leg training covers only one end of the equation. The endurance part is what really exausts the tougher to grow leg muscles. You can meet this criteria by uping the reps, or the overall volume of sets and reducing resting time between them.

hahahaha, ok "cris", i'll stick to my 15-18 sets. ;D
-
That's still a very good/respectable overall volume of work, fatty. Good job. My own overall volume for quads stays around the same as yours, minimum of 18, maximum of 22 sets.

Sounds insane (balance-wise). But I really do like one legged hack-squats. Nice finishing movement, imo.
-
IMO, the most difficult, fucked up movement for legs is the smith machine front squat. That shit locks you into place, and the safety of the smith applies tremenduous pressure solely on the quads. It beats the shit out of your legs ina mercilessly manner.
