M: There seems to be only one pro bodybuilder who's very short that's doing well right now, and that's Lee Priest. I believe Lee is 5' 4" and you're 5' 2". How do you feel you'd fare against a guy like Lee Priest if you were able to get back into shape?
DP: I tell you what; I'd love to compete next to a guy like Lee Priest just for comparison. But I'd have to be in ungodly, phenomenal, freakish shape to compete against this kid. As great as he looks, I still believe he gets screwed in every show he enters. I don't know if he's not talking to the right people, or if he's insulted somebody, because he's got such a beautiful physique and should be placing higher. I would love to get myself in the best shape of my life and go head to head with Lee Priest. If he beats me, I don't care. He's a short guy and he looks great.

The Beef agrees with Danny. Lee can rub you the wrong way, but he is without question in the top 10 of all time.

sometimes when you hear older guys interviewed, they lose some of that 'legend' status that they hold in your mind. When all you've seen of a guy is black & white photos of perfect symmetry, holding a trophy, the right quotes, etc, you only see the good side. hearing some of the all-time greats bickering with one another, complaining about placings from 25 years ago, etc really loses some of the legend shine.
Padilla didn't do that, though. He was positive.

Danny would beat him. He had the better back and better proportions. Lee LOOKS short. Padilla only looks short next to someone else.

Here is a good comparison of the two. I definitely give the edge to Lee but Danny is certainly one of the true greats, in the top 20-25 of all time IMO. Also, I was watching the '97 Ironman the other night and Lee's physique at that show was just insane, he should have beaten Flex that night, and I'm one of Flex's biggest fans.

The edge is definitely for Danny. Much better proportion, better waist-to-shoulder ratio, better overall shape and muscle insertions, better lats.

That interview was pure class on Danny's part. As great as Lee is, I have to give it to Danny, he's has (had) a much more complete physique than Lee, as bodybuilding goes, he has no flaws exept his hight if you want to call that a flaw!!
P.S. What the hell is Danny thinking, he had open heart surgery, he's beyond 50 and he's thinking about competing.........agains t Lee? Sorry, but there's a time and place to say "I've had enough" it seems Danny has yet to realize this!

Danny has class.I could not believe the screen when Preist said he competed in the 220s earlier in his career but is now only presumbaly for conditioning a flat 200 that is mind boggling for a guy who is 6ft.Do the math but Lee is insane compared to Danny.
