Possible English as a second language? Or else a product of the L.A. or San Diego school system? Is this a good example of the Smith Machine even producing problems when trying to describe it?
Anyway, try military presses in the normal way. With a Smith, at times, too much pressure can be placed on the lower back when doing overhead lifts for some people. Might try bending the knees slightly. And/Or have one foot slightly ahead of the other when pressing. If sitting when pressing, try for some kind of lower back support. Or have a Bud brace your back when pressing. Want to keep the small of the back as straight and in place as possible. Good luck.

Stick with free weights, machines travel in a straight line, your body wants a more natural motion of an arc.

NoCalBbEr: That's OK...going to be up at Half Moon bay and Santa Cruz this weekend for a little party time & surfing. At Half Moon bay, a 35 year old ex-surfer like me has to have a death wish. Good Luck.
