Title: Bodybuilding is sport!
Post by: chainsaw on July 04, 2007, 10:20:58 PM
It seems to many folks here that bodybuilding is not a sport.  I agree in a sense on both sides that it is/ isnt.

A sport means cometeitiveness
A sport means that there is physical attributes to playing the game.
A sport also means there is physical fitness, that will inevitabley be a factor in the choosing of a winner.

A beauty contest has judges.
A boxing match, there are judges.

Sports usually are competing at the Olympic Games.

I believe Bodybuilding is both combined, a beauty contest, that involves competitiveness, physical attributes and discipline that will require a winner.

Bodybuilding is truely a non-conventional sport, but with a sense of beauty pageant involved.

Discuss.  Minus the drugs, there are drugs in every sport now a day's..  Even in bowling, so to say drugs disqualify it as a sport is a non issue...

Discuss..

It's not a sport. Its based on looking at bodies. Wow. Get high and it'll all make sense.

Bodybuilding is just a muscle pageant. Get over it.

Bodybuilding as one of Olympics events in Asia Game 2006 & SEA Game (south east asia) many years.
And bodybuilding under Olympic Committee in most countries (like here Taiwan)
So I think  Bodybuilding is one of sports.

bodybuilding is so much more than a sport, to only call it a sport would be dishonest.

it's an art! and a way of life! and what you, me and everyone else posting on getbig spend more time on than anything else in life - including sex!

bodybuilding is bigger than life!

If you want bodybuilding to be considered a sport, have the contestants eat hotdogs while they play poker.  You'll have the show on ESPN & ESPN2 tomorrow.

but are they considered athletes the way ronnie is front squatting for reps?

do you really feel an athlete and a sportsman like ronnie should be compared to a beauty pageant?
