The guy can be nutty but he wants to win. If I was a Cubs fan I'd be thrilled with Cuban's interest in the Cubs.

CHICAGO (AP) -Add internet billionaire and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban to the list of potential Chicago Cubs buyers.
"I submitted an app," Cuban said in an e-mail to The Associated Press.
Interested parties must submit an application to Major League Baseball to examine the team's finances. Cuban told the Chicago Tribune he sent in the application last week, although he wasn't sure of the date.
Tribune Co., which owns the team, announced in April it was selling itself for $8.2 billion to Chicago real estate mogul Sam Zell, who made the deal contingent on shedding non-core assets. That means the Cubs will go on the auction block at the end of the season - a decision Tribune chairman and CEO Dennis FitzSimons has conceded was difficult but one that "really makes sense for our shareholders."
Several potential deep-pocketed bidders are expected to vie for the Cubs and possibly for Wrigley Field, including Cuban and Chicago native Jerry Colangelo, the Phoenix Suns CEO who once ran the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The Tribune, citing unnamed sources, reported Thursday the family of Omaha, Neb.-based TD Ameritrade Holding Corp.'s founder Joe Ricketts also was considering a bid. Ricketts family representatives declined to comment on the report when contacted by The Associated Press on Thursday.
Forbes magazine recently valued the National League Cubs at $592 million, fifth-highest in baseball, although experts speculate the bidding could start at $600 million.

now why wouldn't they take a deal from Cuban? i would think that he knows a thing or two on how to make a team win...granted the Mavs got bounced by the friggin Warriors in the first round but still they are always playoff contenders...so if he got control of the Cubs would he really be able to make an impact for the team?

I agree completely and douche is the perfect word for him at times.
He wants to win and he'd turn them into a playoff team within a few years. I'm sure he's smart enough to know that he'd need to hire the best baseball people he could get his hands on.
The Cubs are such a storied franchise with amazing fans. They deserve to have a winning team. I hope Cuban ends up buying them. I'd love to see them in the World Series.

he's a native of mt. lebanon pa which is a few miles south of pittsburgh
he has said several times that he would be interested in buying his hometown pirates but if he really wanted to he would've made an offer the current ownership couldn't refuse
he just wants his name in the papers

I agree with you guys. Cuban acquiring the Cubs would be great. Even if he tries to lure ARod for 50 million a year.
He would drive Selig insane.

Must have be nice to have been on the early to mid 90's high tech explosion from the ground up like Cuban, Dan Snyder etc.. To be a 30 something billionaire must be cool.

and being there is no salary cap in baseball(from what i can remember) he could lure alot of big names to the cubs and make it almost a dream team. who do you guys think would be his top 5 guys he'd get on the cubs?

I really hope that he gets the cubs that would be awesome. I am a cubs fan and have been for a while. they would be a world series team in a few years and finnaly get a ring. He has the money to get anyone that he wants on the team so I would guarantee that we would have a ring in 3 years or less

I'm a Cubs fan and I'd love it if Cuban bought them. Some people don't like his style, but I think if you spending a couple hundred mil each year, you should have a little more freedom at NBA games.
