I just read in Newsweek that the US cable companies have a speed of 4mps and average 40 bucks a month and Japan has speeds of 50mps and average 30 dollars a month. :( The article when on to say that even Estonia has faster speeds than us!

Yeah, but it sucks when you have to wait for the next picture or video to load before your dick goes flaccid. :D

I'm on 20mbps ...what do you have Spirit?

This is not a new thing... The US has always lagged behind the rest of the world in internet speeds.
It's a simple thing really though... the US is a HUGE country compared to most... smaller countries in Asia and Europe can roll out infrastructure faster than the US can because we have to span such large distances... It's just the nature of the beast.
Most countries don't have land you can buy anymore either, it's all used up, but not in the US, hell, they'll give it to you for free in some places as long as you put a shack on it.

europe uses IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) standards that are defined as E1 speeds.. which is 2 mbps
in the north americas we use the T1 IEEE standard which is 1.544mbps
how ever if ya got the $ you can always buy yerself a fractional T1 which would be T 1.5 and get a little more than an E1 for a lot more than it'd cost in europe..
if anyone is looking to save money i'd go with Frame-Relayfor your biz link..

how do you check??
press <alt> <cltr> <del> and then click on the performance tab
i doubt any home user in the US is running 20 mbps
the 20 mpbs is the total bandwidth..call setup ..keepalives etc also use up bandwidth..but your ISP wont tell ya dat ;)
i'm running 1.12 mbps right now..which should be 1.544 mbps which i'm paying for..but running a bit low which is normal..
paul ya sure ya running 20 mbps?? i really doubt that my man..
