Title: Can someone tell me why dextrose and malto are better than sugar?
Post by: strength on July 18, 2007, 10:27:25 AM
i dont understand the difference between them and eating plain sugar postworkout.  I dont eat sugar as my post workout carbs, im just wondering cause i have a bunch in the kitchen and have never used it.  Do u just put it right in with your shake?  should you only use it PWout?

well all sugars are not created equal.  sucrose or fructose are not good pwo because your goal is to replenish muscle glycogen not liver glycogen.

yes just mix it in your pwo shake. a 2:1 dextrose/malto to whey mix.

Strength, as JM said, not all sugar is created equal.  Regular table sugar is actually fructose/glucose and the GI is in the mid 60s, fructose alone is in the low 20s, whereas dex and malto are 105+.  Note: anything with 'OSE' is a type of sugar... lactose, sucrose, glucose, dextrose....
