Title: hack squats: machines or free weights??

i noticed that alot of people do hacks on the machines
i also heard you can do them using free weights by gripping a barbell behined your back and squating
has any one tried this ?

Yeah its super awkward, which is why the machine was invented.

back squat is better and safer then hack machine squat

back squat is better and safer then hack machine squat



Without any explanation this doesn't make sense. The barbell version's much less comfortable and less effective.

my mistake I was thinking on difference between  smith machine squat and back squat , sorry

Hack machine is better

cool. i do hack squats with very slow rep speed (4 seconds pos, 4 second negative) im assuming this will be safe on my knee joint.

 i train at me so i do hack squats with a barbell,been doing them for about 9 weeks and have gained some size and thickness in the lower quad area (teardrop). yes it is an awkward exercise but i think it can be used as an alternative when a change is needed.
