Interesting that the side chest pose was once a combination of pecs and ribcage. For whatever reason, today's guys prefer not to expand their ribcage. ::) ::)
-
gayer than Earl asking levrone to "pop lock and drop it"

cos it looks like he is giving birth thru his rib cage.

No, but you came very close. It's actually because they aren't capable of holding in their stomachs.
(Good early shot of of Ell Darden in the first photo.)

First picture appears to be Ellington Darden, formerly of No. California. If I'm right he used to advocate training in a tub of mud (resistance training?).
Back in the 70's he had an "act" where he would hang himself. Needless to say he survived on numerous occasions.
He has published a number of books (HIT, fitness, etc) and is well respected in his field.

Stunt, it was Mike Dayton that did the hanging/strongman stunts.
Ellington Darden was from Florida, and worked almost exclusively with Arthur Jones at the Nautilus HQ in Ocala FL.
He also wrote the majority of the Nautilus books.
He did win a few shows though. I also think he was a professor for a while at U of FL, Gainsville.
