Some retarded chick made this post about the USA's
Ferguson is overdue, but not Putnum. He's only done 2 Nationals shows. Come on!!!! What about the folks that have been doing the competitions year after year. Those are the guys that are paying their dues. Some competitors are good National competitors, but not good Pro competitors. I hate seeing the politics play a role in who's going to win or who is in what magazine.
Whoever shows up looking the best on any given day should win, regardless of whether they've been competing for 2 weeks or 20 years. Paying your dues is such a retarded concept. In track, if you finish ahead of a guy, guess what? You win, regardless of how many races either of you have won. I hate it when people say someone should turn pro because they've paid there dues.

Ditto.
All of which goes to show, why BB is not a real sport. :(
Remember when this guy showed up on the Olympia stage? He was ignored because no one had seen him before and he hadn't paid his dues.

Roland kicked ass. More recently, I think Dennis Wolf has gotten hosed because he "hasnt paid his dues" in the IFBB

is that really gh15

It's the 'old boys' club.. I think it''s b.s as well.
-
an exception: Lenda never paid her dues. She won Ms. O her first time out!
-
How bout Phil Heath. He didnt "pay his dues" anywhere near as much as some other guys. Still deserves to be winning shows!

Bob has competed since 1981, according to Tim. (Tim, the website you link for Bob is long gone.)

Yeah and you seen how long it took him to get his procard eventhough he paid his dues more so than most other bodybuilders through history

Paying your dues is not enough; you actually have to have a winning physique. This debate is really about people with winning physiques who are shafted because they have not "paid their dues."

paying your dues in bb = performing fellatio on the "powers that be"
At least, that's how i read it.

one problem with the NPC Nationals and USA is that there are just too many contestants and not enough time to judge them. 45 people in a class gets wittled down to 15 in 5 minutes. That means that the only people who make the cut are people the judges know by name. It may take a few years of showing up at contests for a judge to know who you are.
but there is really no way to judge 45 people on stage in a timely fashion. In the AAU, judges would meet the athletes back stage, get to see them up close in natural lighting. An otherwise unknown person with an outstanding physique would be less likely to be overlooked that way.

Once you get outside the top 5, maybe top 10, name recognition has alot to do with it. If you show up looking like you deserve 7th, you may still end up in 10th. However, if you show up looking like you should be in 1st place(phil heath) you will not be overlooked.
