I'm curious as to why Shavis chose to do the USA after having won the bantamweight category already. He should do the nationals instead. ???
-
Looks great but he must be like 5'2"-5'4" so he will never get anywhere :-\
-
He looks decent, but he ain't got a prayer in Hell of getting a pro card or even making a dent in the pro ranks...There is nothing special about him, if you compare him to the light heavy-weight winner in 1992, John Sherman, this dude is genetically deficent. It sucks, but it's the truth

He could win his class at the nationals and go pro.

Is he filipino ?

With what, what is he gonna do? Dude looks fine right now, that is about big as he should get, because if he tries to pack on the pounds he'll just mess himself up .Sometimes one is just too short to play the size game. !70 pounds would be his max. Even Michio Grubbs maxed out at 175-180. And Two, why would they give a pro card to a lightwieght ( I know they have in the past, like Papoose Turner) when it is virtually useless to him?

Not everyone who wants to attain their pro card wants to compete in a an IFBB show. It may just be a personal goal for him.

And that is the problem with Politics.and personal goals and the Nationals, which tend to have lower qaulity physiques than the USA's. Because the USA's only reward two pro cards, people bring the thier "A" game (usually), well back in the 90's, anyway. But with the Nats. it is the top of the each class. Which is one of the reasons why the IFBB is so flooded with mediocre physiques. If the Nats awarded the Two to three pro cards, it would shut down the possiblity of having dudes like that bantamweight guy who thinks he's a blonde Michael Jackson or that other lightweight guy (I think he is Philipino) who is a joke himself. Mind you, this is also in reference to those who are ligh heavies to heavies as well. Bigot won his pro card did virtually nothing with it, as with Garrett Downing, who did win his class against Teveita Alohei ( mispelled name), but wasn't pro material.

Exactly. For some, getting their pro card is the end.
-
Look's to have a very nice shape - if he was even drier he would look a lot better. Similar build to David Henry when he was a middleweight.
-
Is he filipino ?
I think half Japanese (Higa 比嘉,seems Okinawa's name)

Shavis will not be doing the Nationals this year. After winning the Bantamweights at the USA's back in 99 (at the age of 23), he could have gone on to win the Bantams at Nationals and turn pro, but decided to pursue the lightweight class. He knew/knows that he wouldn't compete if he took his pro card, and at such a young age...why should he have stop?
His plans is to move up to Welterweights and compete at either next year's or 2009 USA's. He's got 2 USA's wins under his belt, and he's destined to win a 3rd.
Shavis is only 31 yrs old so he has many more years to compete. I wouldn't be surprised if he one day took the middleweights as well!
