Im about 13 weeks out from a figure show and would like to know if its possible to achieve competition color without laying in tanning beds prior to painting on color? I had some serious skin cancer taken off earlier this year so needless to say I am trying to avoid tanning all together.
Also, if you are pretty fair when you paint on the competition color, will the effects still be the same??
Thanks!

For my last 3 shows I never used a tanning bed. I get tanned by Jan Tana at the show and I'm perfect. I am pretty light too. I try to stay out of them now that I'm in my 30's ;)

Someone told me her new "system" is amazing. I don't know if getting tanned by her at the shows would always be an option but the description on her site says "tanning beds not needed!" Im worried about how the color would look on pale skin, or me having to layer so much I would look like I rusted!!

You can do fine with competition color and no base tan underneath.
You might need a little more color, like an extra coat, but I don't think that having a base tan makes that much of a difference, esp if you go with the spray tans they offer at the shows now. It depends mostly on how well your skin absorbs the color, which doesn't change if you have a base tan.
Jan Tana's "On Stage" is VERY dark if you put relatively heavy coats on. I believe that's what she sprays.
I actually prefer Pro Tan now that they are offering Pro Tan Spray at the bigger shows.
Either way, though, the spray tan is the way to go. It's so easy and it goes on really nice.
