according to news reports, ving rhames' dogs staged an uprising against their caretaker at rhames' LA house. The caretaker did not survive the palace coup.

In a 1999 interview with the Los Angeles Times, the Pulp Fiction star showed off his “petrifying” Ambullneo mastiff named Samson and his three mastiff puppies — Storm, Scorsese and Cage (the latter two were named after director Martin Scorsese and actor Nicolas Cage, with whom Rhames worked on the film Bringing Out the Dead).
He also talked about his 170-pound Fila Brasileiro named Kong.
“The dog was actually bred to guard slaves,” Rhames said. “It was the only dog they found that had the temperament to guard a slave. It could be around you every day, but if you tried to run away, it would deal with you like it never saw you before.”
The Times reporter joked, “Just as you are thinking how helpful this will be to the forensic specialists, he pulls the dog away with his free hand before it can playfully disembowel you.”
During the interview, Rhames lavished his canines with attention, at times speaking to them in baby talk.
Still, despite their intimidating appearance, Rhames insisted that his dogs were all bark no bite. “He just wants to play,” Rhames said of Kong.

He's a celebrity something will be worked out. And as we all know, it isn't the dogs fault, it is Ving's fault, no matter what way you look at it.

Irresonsible, BLACK, machismo in fine display here. Anyone else see a problem here? Most normal people don't talk of their dogs ability to "deal with you." That neutering bill should also include something about black people having to pass tests to own dogs. I apologize to any responsible black owners here.

Corection...every human being should pass a test to own a dog above a surten size...don't make this a all black thing...we don't like this kind of thinking on this board and i hope you'll end it with your last post.

If Ving was talking about what the dogs were bred for, and they were bred to guard slaves, I see no harm in him stating fact. I don't think he got all giddy because he owned dogs that mauled slaves, him being a descendant of slaves himself. Like any owner of pure breed dogs, they state what the dog was bred for. End of story.

Maybe its just the ones I've encountered (which admittantly have been very few) but Filas fall into that group of dogs that people get when they want something "worse" than a pitbull---meaning something bigger, more macho, and otherwise defining of their own penile deficiencies (Fila's, Tosa's, Preserio's, and Cane Corso's all somewhat fall into this group in my mind). The dogs themselves have not been bad at all, but the owners attitudes towards them have scared me a bit with the ones I've encountered. Many of them seemed to be bite cases in the making because of the owners machoism and refusal to recognize the size/physical stature of the dog and train them appropropriately.

I live in the city and blacks seem to have trouble with their animals.. Every block theres some black guy with a pit or rot that seems out of control.
I go to central park or Long Island, same breeds there but with what seems like responsible owners. Less dog attack reports as well.
But as someone who resides in europe, I wouldn't expect you to understand.
These people get the dogs not for companionship, but to look tough and to gain respect. It's pretty evident.

In all the articles on yahoo, they say 3 English Mastiffs and an English Bulldog(possibly a Bull Terrier) were taken from the house with 2 of the Mastiffs suspected of the attack. The only mention of Fila Brasileiros was that there were some of the dogs on the property in 1 article.

its not racism when you see 90% of black people who come in to your vet clinic with dogs that are human aggressive, untrained and out of control, while the owner laughs and says how "protective" he is. 90% of the white people come in with nice dogs, well trained and in control. the pits and rots brought in by blacks are insane, while the pits and rots brought in by whites are socialized and friendly. Thats fact, not opinion and not racism. Like i said if you want to spend a day with me in oakland, i'd be happy to arrange it.

Oh, i don't live in oakland, i live in a wealthy suburban area about 30 minutes away(ie, all whites, 1 asian family, 1 indian family), i just do volunteer work there.

Try coming to the country, where I swear some of these rednecks train their dogs to go after anything black. And many run free. If you complain to them about dogs being in your yard, they look at you like they want to burn a cross on your front lawn.
Country dogs tend to have free rein over anything, I've been bitten by hounds, and the owners said, "He shouldn't have been in the woods." Yeah, it's my grandfather's property, and I can't go his woods ::).
You got people blakc and white that get pits, Presas,etc that are irresponsible (remember that video from the late 80's to early 90's of the black animal control worker who was mauled by the pit bull, the owner was white, and she sic the the dog on the worker). And there are those who have hounds, who try and re-enact "the runaway slave" scenario.

I've seen a pit owned by a white dude, who looked like a Ken doll, he was running with his pit and as he passed another dog, a Chessy , the pit lunged at the Chessy, and the dude had really restrained th pit while the Chessy ran away with it's owner. And this is in Annapolis, and they do't play with their Labs and Chessies.
Most of the black owners of pits that i know of are well behaved From Baltimore to DC, and if ya want spend a day in DC (aka Chocolate City) you'll find good mannered pits and aggressive pits. And the aggressive one's owners are usually in the drug trade.
