My boss is going to Las Vegas on a private plane this weekend. This is the second time a client has offered him a trip on a private plane in the last 4-5 months.
I am not a strident environmentalist, but I have been somewhat affected by the latest round of tree-hugging propaganda. If I was ever offered the opportunity to take a private jet, I think I would try to opt for a commercial flight.
It's been hot here, but I have only used my air conditioner for a total of 10 days this summer. (That's partly due to the fact that our power company has a sad history of dealing with power outages.)
I get car service from work even though I know it would be more environmentally aware to take the train. But like a lot of public utilities, it sucks and I'm not willing to be inconvenienced.
We shop at the Whole Foods near my house and my girl bought two of those "I'm not a plastic bag" sacks and we have even been using those at places other than whole foods. Some of the distribution concepts behind Whole Foods are considered environmentally conscious, too.

Whole Foods is for hippies.. ahhahaha
I grow my own tomatoes and use flouros.
I always make sure to turn off the lights, fans, ac, tv.
I don't litter. I make sure to recycle all my whisky, beer, vodka, soda bottles and my whey protein cases.
That's about it.
-
I try and put paper in the "recycle" spots around the office when I can. I'm constantly harping on my kids to turn off the lights and stop running the radio, CD player, TV, and Playstation . . . at the same time. I guess that's more of a $ issue.

Best steaks for under $15/lb in the city.
-
I separate the thrash, use low-energy lamps, non-bleached paper, and tries to opt for environmentally friendly choices in general.
Without letting it impacting my life that much actually.

Are you fucking yuppie or something? ;)

I recycle because the spousal unit will nag me if I don't.
Other than that I drive a big ass SUV, smoke cigars, crank up the AC, and turn on all the lights in the house. ;D

Yes, I do. I use FFi-MPG-caps (http://jme.mpgproduct.com/default.aspx?cid=50962) <--click me
...and I encourage as many people as possible to use them as well.
They are environmentally friendly and allow us to:
- reduce the toxic emissions from our vehicles by 75% or more
- reduce our fuel consumption
- travel farther on less fuel, which helps us to save money on gasoline & diesel
- reduce our dependency on fossil fuels
- reduce the smog causing pollution we put into the air.

I also use Eco-Sheen waterless carwash.
This product can clean, seal, protect & polish your vehicle in one easy step. Simply spray, wipe, and buff to a shine. It will also preserve the earths most precious commodity which is water. It normally takes an average of 135 gallons of water to wash a car. By using Eco-Sheen, I can save 135 gallons of water from going down the drain.
The amount of fresh water available for human use is less than 0.08% of all the water on the planet. About 70% of the fresh water is already used for agriculture, and the reports say that the demands of industry and energy will grow rapidly. The World Water Council report estimates that in the next two decades the use of water by humans will increase by about 40%, and that 17% more water than is available, will be needed to grow the world's food supply. The commission concludes "only rapid and imaginative institutional and technological innovation can avoid the crisis". -- Excerpted from the BBC News-March,2000.
Eco-Sheen also leaves an incredible polished finished on vehicles that truly has to be seen to be believed. It also works inside the house as well, and can replace most cleansers in use today. It will do kitchens, appliances, microwaves, counter-tops, etc., any glossy, non-porous surface. I find it much easier to use than Windex, and it produces a better finish too. In addition, now, I find my bathroom mirrors don't fog up now
I check the weather forecasts for rain prior to turning on the garden sprinkler, and I use compact flourescents as well as solar powered lighting units where possible..
I use insulating blankets for my hot water heater, and pipes. I use low flow aerator shower heads
When washing my hair, I will turn off the water while lathering up. I try to do the same when washing my face or brushing my teeth. I try to turn off and unplug appliances when not in use, and will use phosphate free detergent.
I recycle paper & plastics, as well as aluminum, and biological waste (eggshells, vegetable cuttings etc). In addition to the blue bin for glass & aluminum cans, and the grey bin for paper, my neighbourhood has also implemented a green bin as well which recycles bio wastes (things that would normally go into a compost bin).
Now that the warm weather is here, I will walk or use public transit where feasible.
When I make purchases, I try to purchase items that come with the least amount of unnecessary packaging, and I also try to re-use the packaging on the items I purchase whenever possible.
If I have a clogged drain, instead of using toxic chemicals, I will instead use a little vinegar & rock salt.
It will accomplish the same thing without the toxic chemicals going into the water supply.
I can't remember off the top of my head, ...but when I first saw the figures on how many tonnes of carbon monoxide can be reduced from going into the air by making simple, tiny, tiny, little adjustments, I was both astounded and inspired to do as much as I could to reduce the pollutants I put into the air. It's amazing how much of a difference we can make with just tiny little adjustments, that we don't even notice, ...yet it has a huge impact on our environment. When I find the numbers, I will post them here.

don't wash your car..wait for the rain and then dry it with a rag..then you don't have to worry about water-less car wash...

don't wash your car..wait for the rain and then dry it with a rag..then you don't have to worry about water-less car wash...
But then you have no control over when your car get's clean and how long it stays dirty.
Besides, it could be a little drizzle, barely spitting, and then you have dust spots, and runny marks,
...not to mention what that acid rain does to the finish, you have no UV protection... and worse of all...
You won't get that shiny breathtaking diamond like new car sheen like when you use Eco-Sheen. :D
It really is amazing. Everybody who sees it has the same wide-eyed reaction :o "WoW"!!

I just do everything responsibly with out letting it turn into an issue or an obsession.
In summer we get water shortages and in winter we have to watch how much juice we use or the Power company has to do load shedding and switch of different suburbs in rotation.
So we pretty used to not going to crazy.
