On tour, with a sober Eddie, Dave without the weave, and fat kid that Eddie supposedly fathered on bass!
-
Now my life is finally complete....
-
The first two albums are great. After that, forget it.

im not a big fan. theyve only done 3-4 good songs

it's gonna crash and burn and in the end dave will be singing like he does at the end of somebody get me a doctor
"i"m gone"
don't know how many hardcore VH fans there are on this site but I guess if you go the official VH site they have the original 6 albums on the sides and if you look close at VH1 you'll notice they took out Mike anthony's pic and replaced it with wolfgangs and they changed the cover of women and children first so it doesn't show mike's pic anymore either.
will the lack of class from this band ever stop?
-
whatever happened with michael anthony and VH anyways?

nobody really says for sure. Ed used to bitch about him waaaay back in 81, about how he never wrote any music-which alex never really did either. Things got alot better when Sammy joined and they were all pretty tight until thier manager ed lefler died in 94 then it fell apart. Mike stayed with them when Sam left but he did a few shows with Sam back on the Sam and Dave tour and even appears on Sam's 02 live CD. When Sammy and Ed and Al got back together in 04 Mike didn't play on the new tunes and Ed didn't want him on tour, Sammy said either he's in or I'm out and they brought him back in but as a salaried employee, mike also had to give up any rights to his part of VH in the future so he can never appear as "mike anthony Van Halen's bass player".
Ed's a dick, plain and simple. I've followed these guys as much as anyone for the last 25 years and they make me sick right now.

Eddie is the cancer in the band.

thats some fucked up shit. has Ed always been this big of a dick? no wonder Val left him.

Ed's personality took a major shift after the bands manager Ed lefler died in 94. For whatever reason his personality did almost a complete 180.....he's been a drunk or a cock or a drunk cock ever since. I could go on and on if anyone wants and point out all the dickhead things and stupid decisions he's made regarding this band and everyone involved in it since then. Sammy got lucky getting the boot-or quiting depending on who you listen to and I'm pretty sure Ed's lying about that one ;), he's put out 5 cd's since then-some great some so-so, 3 DVD's and jsut made 85 million selling his tequila company, now Mike's hooked up with him on his latest tour and it seems like he's gonna do great. He does his own set to start the show, then later him and Sam come out and do a bunch of VH songs together, it's pretty cool.
I'm pretty sure Ed's bi-polar BTW.
-
First crash -> Eddies wife loved Dave more than him.
2nd crash -> Eddies son learns to like Dave more than him.
When it was 40 gigs, I said 15 to 18 tops.
Now I understand it is 25, right?
I'd say that 13-15gigs until...

That Eddie interview with Howard Stern via phone was a fucking joke. The guy was talking about his cancer treatment and how he went to Germany and found a cure.
When Howard asked how he had a cure and why hoe wouldn't share that with modern science Eddie just kept mumbling about how priviliged he was to know this information.
What a dick he is now.
-
EVH is crazy. He claims he got oral cancer from magnetic waves being amplified into his mouth since he liked to keep a pick between his teeth.

Not allot different then what Gene and Paul did to Peter and Ace after they left and then came back for the reunion tours. Its a business and those with the power make the rules.
-
This tour will last maybe 10 shows before it blows up
Eddie and Diamond Dave can not last a whole tour together.

with the kind money this tour is going to generate, I think they'll find a way to co exist. Besides, Dave needs the money ever since his radio career went up in flames.

nat al,knows vh more than most,i've been a fan since kid and seen them with dvr and sammy, they say david hasen't sounded this good in looonnnggg time, true or not remains to be seen, stage looks cool they showed set design.i hope and pray it could be as great as planned but who knows?

the problem I have with it is Ace and Peter were total drunks and they kinda left on thier own. Mike didn't really do anything that we know of, he stood by those guys threw everything, Dave leaveing, Sam coming in, Sam leaving, Ed being a drunken mess, Mike sold his share of Cabo Wabo and how much did that cost him? Sam just made 85 million off of selling a percentage of the tequila. Rumor has it Dave slept with Al's wife back in 81 or 82 and he didn't get the boot. Mike has been a good soldier and it's gotten him nothing. Rumor is that Ed wants to recut the old stuff with Wolf on Bass so all future pressings will have him instead of Mike that way Mike gets no royalties.....that's low. Ed's fucked this band up so bad since 94ish it's not even funny....it's great to listen to him drunk as hell doing phone interviews talking about how no one else in the band wants to work but him-this is from 05...lol, Sam's put out 5 cd's since he left, how many has Ed released? 1 Crappy CD and 2 songs with Roth-1 very good song, one so-so song and 3 songs with Sam that were pretty much a mess cause Sam couldn't stand to be in the studio with Ed....the bands a joke right now.

Natrual Al, do you like DLR's solo work? Personally i think his earlier stuff [with Vai] is far superior to VH.
Why did Roth never become a movie star or something? Post 91 he just kind of disappeared - a tragedy for someone so charismatic and fun. Its a real shame.

Shyboy is a personal favorite of mine.

When DLR went solo I did not go crazy for it.
But as an entertainer with VH he was one of the best ever.
I used to love the the high karate kicks and gymnastic moves on stage.
He also had a mean set of shoulders on him.

Got a guilty pleasure for "Tobacco Road".

That news conference was a joke. Everytime Dave opened his mouth, Ed had that look on his face like, "Oh fuck, I forgot about this loud mouth." To be honest, now that I'm older Dave doesnt' sound cool at all anymore, he's annoying and I'm sure he's a closet homo.
Whats up with Wolfgang too? He looked so uncombfortable on stage and he needs to see Jenny Craig now.
This tour is 23 years too late. Dave's voice sucks, Ed's mind is gone, Mike's not in the band anymore. I always wanted to see the guys play together, but not like this.
-
IT will generate plenty of money, and somehow the mixing board will be busy to blend the sound to sound somewhat like vintage VH.one can only hope that it dosen't turn into an embaressment, can it?

I've got all of Dave's solo stuff in one form or another except diamond Dave because the only time I actually saw it on cd it was 25 bucks. Dave's first disk was very good. Vai and Sheehan are awsome but to me it sounds like Diver Down part II. VH moved in a different direction when Dave left and I understand why some poeple don't like it, I do. 5150 is an incredible album to me, don't know if it's cause I was 13 when it came out or what but I never, ever get tired of it. Skyscraper, to me sounds like DAve saying "holy shit, I basically made a Van halen record with Eat em and Smile and it sold a 2 million copies.....Van Halen changed everything and sold 3 million right off the bat, had a top 5 single, tons of songs on the radio and the 2nd biggest tour of the year..I gotta sound like them" and that's what he did. Skyscraper has a couple of great songs on it like Hina and Vai is on fire for it but it's so over produced it just sounds cheesey...which is funny cause OU812 is so under produced it sounds terrible on a sonic level. By the time A little Aint Enough came out Vai was gone, sheehan was long gone and I think Dave was really panicking cause VH was just kicking his ass. OU812 and 5150 were HUGE in terms of sales, singles, tours...everything. ALAE has some good stuff on it but overall I dont' really dig it, Drop in the Bucket is probably one of the best songs Dave's ever done on his own but aside form that the disk is-to me-forgetable. VH released another HUGE disk with FUCK and that pretty much did DAve in.....everything he's done since then has been a joke. DLR Band has great guitar work from John Lowry but aside from that Dave sounds like garbage and his lyrics are a joke, Blacksand gets alot of praise but I dont' get it.......
I've got boots of all his tours and have seen him 4 or 5 times as a solo artist and I honestly don't think he can sing anymore, Hagar buried him IMO on the Sam and Dave tour but hey.....that's just my opinion.

I think the name of a site is guitars101, they have a soundboard recording of a show from september on the last tour with Sammy, Now Sammy can't sing like he did in 86 but he can still sing, Mike and Alex were fine but Ed is so incredibly bad it's not even funny. There are parts of it where I have no idea what the hell he's doing....I can just see the looks from the other guys like "WTF?" his solo is embarrasing, his backing vocals suck and when he talks he's so plastered it's not even funny.
combine that with Dave who really isn't what he was back in 86 when he talked his way through songs and an enexperienced wolfgang and you've got a recipe for disaster.
Dave might pull it off, lord knows he's waited years for this, Al will be fine but if Ed sounds anything like he did in 04 this tour is gonna bomb.
it's actually not selling all that great from what I hear but I haven't really looked into it.
-
i am and always have been a big fan of VH. but after hearing all the bullshit going on with Ed i dont think i wanna go see them play.
-
wikipedia said as of aug 21 fall tour is cancelled sighting problem with wolfgang ,anyone confirm it?does anyone believe a clean and sober eddie playing his ass off again?i guess if you want to here eddie at his best watch or listen to live here right now live i have cd and dvd ,solo is unreal.
-
Toronto might add a thrid show. Tickets are selling fast. Your right about Ed playing in 04, just terrible. You can hear some of it on youtube, he's playing chords and notes that don't belong anywhere in the song their playing. Dave can't sing anymore, his throat is done. Can you provide a specific link to some of Ed's playing in 04, I want to hear some more, it's like watching a train wreck.
I'll post the link when i get home, they've got tons of boots there. I'm listening to Japan 89 right now....great show, they actually released this in Japan as a tV special so the quality is great. Ed's playing for the most part in 04 was terrible, the rest of the guys were fine, Ed was OK on some nights but nothing like what he's capable of. The show that I have that's soundboard is from Atlanta, I think the date on it is 9/17/04, it's the direct feed to Ed's monitor so there's not alot of bass but other than that it's good quality.
I don't think I've ever seen a band fuck up as much as VH has in the last 12 years, it's just a mess. The tour with Dave.......I don't even know where to start, it's gonna end bad. Take everything these guys say with a grain of salt, they said the same stuff about Sammy in 04 "we love each other now", "we're gonna record a new cd"....blah, blah, blah.

Thanks for that guitar101 site. I thought I've seen just about all the live videos there are of Van Halen (with Roth) but theres a ton of great stuff I've found there that I never new exsisted. Some it is close to pro quality but has never made it to the general public, I don't get it.

the band is very againts releasing stuff that they feel is not up to snuff quality wise. If you look on youtube there were 3 video's shot for Van Halen 1, then they did a few for Don Kischner's show from VHII, a couple of lip sink performances for WACF, 3 live vids for Fair Warning and then it kinda stops for the Dave era. Live Without a Net is an incredible performance by everyone, they shot a vid in Japan in 89 and it's great. The Right Here Right Now vid is "ok" at best, it's way over-edited and hard to watch. The band did a PPV special in 95 that's pretty good if not great.
I've got TONS of live vids from every tour but they're on video cassette and I've got tons of live recordings from 74-95...probably about 200 or so.....
They recorded shows for a live album on a few tours, I know they recorded in 81 or were set to record but Dave screwed Al's wife-who was also named Valarie and when Ed heard about it he took a swing at Dave and Dave ducked and Ed punched a wall messing up his hand ::)
they recorded shows in 84, 86 gave us Live without a net, 89 had shows recorded and 91 did as well....
anyway, there's some great stuff out there if you look for it.
