Title: Rat Race: You In or Out?
Post by: Al-Gebra on August 25, 2007, 07:36:02 AM

are you content to coast, or do you feel driven to always do more?

If the latter, when does it end?

I think I'm beginning to understand why Entourage is such a popular show. Apart from Ari, nobody seems to work on that show.

I thought you meant trying to get ahead in business.

i'm content to coast, which would explain why i am a "loser" with certain things in life!

I was thinking about work/business mostly . . . but also about the underlying attitudes.  Some people always do more than others . . . doesn't matter what it is.

I'm like STella, ...I'm OUT-OF-THE-RAT-RACE! What I am though is INSPIRED to do more. I enjoy what I do.
The successes I achieve, and am able to help others achieve INSPIRE me. I'm not driven, I'm inspired.

I work hard, ...but I also play hard too, ...and it's so much fun to get together with good friends who you also happen to work with, ...and play... play without a care in the world, knowing that when you get home from your vacation... if you decide to come home, there'll be a bunch of checks waiting for you in your mail box, ...or that they were wired directly to your bank account.

It is an absolute joy to help someone change their life... whether it be by helping them to bring in a little extra income into their household, ...or by helping them to get out of debt, ...helping them to be able to send their kids to private school, ...helping them to send their kids to university, ...retire a spouse from a job s/he absolutely hated, so they could spend more time with the family instead of working 24/7... etc., etc,.

It is an absolute joy to go on a mad shopping spree with someone, helping them shop for the things they previously only dared to dream about, ...and that together, you were able to make a reality.

These are the types of things that inspire me and bring me more joy than you can imagine.  :)

ps - And the money is waaaay cool too  :P

well...i'm happy but sorta not! let me elaborate...i'm 39, still live at home, never married, no kids, have a dead end job, and make shitty $! but, i am in a company thta is always busy, i have benefits, and if i last til retirement age, i get a pension.  for years i know i could be doing better, but just have no ambition to look for another job. (it took me forever just to find the one i have now). but i know i will never get anywhere making $12.65 an hour! you see...I AM COASTING THROUGH LIFE!  i am not miserale, but i could have more and be happier!

Haven't seen all the shows, but Ari along with Drama are my favorites.

My former neighbor is about 50 and she has lived her entire life w/her parents which have both recently died.  She has been a nurse for probably 25 years and has been financially able to live on her own but she chose not to and they loved having her at home.  If you feel regret or like you're missing something that's one thing but if you are content and your parents are content w/you living there that's another.    If you're thinking you want a diff path though, it's never too late.
