i'm thinking of just taking them in the morning, i've never gotten an upset stomach from any kind of pill on an empty stomach.

most omega rich oils are very sensitive to heat... i used to refrigerate most of my vitamins, it kept them from oxidizing as fast... now i just eat vegetables

Basic everyday health maintenance is 2.5 grams/day, however, since they're usually sold in 1 gram caps, just take 3.
2.5-5 grams for improved cardiovascular health.
5-10 grams from enhanced brain function, reduction of chronic inflammation (arthritis, bursitis, or any "itis", headaches, etc.).
10 grams and up has been shown to be helpful in treating some brain dysfunctions like Parkinsons, ADHD, Schizophrenia, extreme violent behavior, etc.
6 or more grams when on a cutting diet where dietary fat is restricted.

ewwww :-X
wait... 3-6-9? (finger shaking) should be FISH OIL!!! How many times do I have to say it!!! ? ;)

also, a small amount of vitamin e is generally used to help preserve/protect fish oil from oxidizing. Yes; keep away from heat. I keep mine in the fridge. Use the freezer if you have burping issues.

If you do experience stomach upset, it could be due to the gel cap itself. You really should take it with food since the stomach's digestive acids help with absorption (as with most vitamins). Vitamin E helps with absorption as well (and vice-versa)

We go through an 180 capsule bottle a week here, never bother refrigerating it :P
-
i eat 1-2 pounds of salmon a week is that enough of teh fish oils

You're not taking it because it tastes good, so forget about that. ;)

Erasmus touts all the great benefits of fish oils containing high amounts of EPA & DHA, yet his product (Udo's), doesn't contain them.

is there really a difference? i prefer the farm raised, the wild-caught kind is totally lean and dries out real bad when you cook it. it seems like the farm raised ones have more oils

For me, generally three times per day, three capsules at a time (9g). More or less depending on whether I'm trying to up the fat % of caloric intake for the day (target 20-25%).

Princess,
One of my gym friends is a physical therapist. The other night I asked him about fish oil supps. While he has no personal experience with it, one of the things he told me is that f.o. brands sold through doctors (chiro, etc.) are higher quality than those bought at, say, Walmart / Costco.
I know they are more expensive, as I once bought a bottle off of my previous chiropractor.
As for the quality factor, do you have any input?
And Midnite, I know you’ve done your homework on this, too so your opinion is welcomed as always.

Generally speaking, yes, they are higher quality and more concentrated. The one common brand that comes to mind is Metagenics, however, there are others out there that are very high quality, which obviously comes at a price.

Less contaminants - esp since you eat so much of it.
Learn to cook it so it doesn't dry out too much less cooking time, covered, wrapped, or brushed with olive oil...
