Best so far:
*Vili overtaking the drugged up she-beast from Belarus in the shot put in the very last round.
*Reese Hoffa dominating.
*Carolina Kluft, winning, totaling over 7000 points and setting a new European Record in the Heptathlon.
Looking forward to:
*Jeremy Wariner 400 meters (could break MJ's record)
*The mens 1500 meters
*The mens javelin
...will also be interesting to see the 50 km walk under these extreme weather conditions.

Seeing gay beat powell was pretty cool, the womens 100m was a damn good race... but i seriously doubt wariner will break MJs record in the 400m. the reason MJ never took it under 43 (hell, he probably coulda gone under 42) is because he never had any, ANY competition, just like warniner. the main difference is that wariner does not have the strength or speed that MJ had. I would be willing to wager that michael could be ready to go in 8 weeks and race wariner and beat him. the dude is still a rock solid, lean 185 lbs and he's only what, 39? He looks great in those commercials for coors. Doesn't look a day over 30.

Although he doesn't have the speed of MJ, Wariner did run 43.5 not that long ago. He might come close, they say it's a fast track, which was proved by the 400 womens race today.

I'm gonna go out on a limb: He'll get under the magical 43.
He looked fabulous when jogging in with a 44.5 today.
This record could be some crazy shit.
-
yeah, but when michael broke the record, he jogged in at 43.9 in the semi, remember?

True, true.
MJ has better speed, but Wariner has better endurance. The endurance is what scares me, I don't think I've seen him exhausted towards the end of a 400 meter.
-
you are crazy if you think wariner has better endurance. MJ was in such good shape that his blood pressure and heart rate would actually go DOWN in the last 100m of a 400m. I like wariner, but he is not in michael's league.
-
Either way it's only a matter of time before he does, it would be great if he does at the championships though. Even MJ thinks he has a chance of doing it, he doesn't even seem that worried about losing his record, but thats probably because he knows he has a 200 record that is going to be even harder to break.
There are some other good runners in that final as well, so you never know Wariner might not even win...
-
its going to be a long time before someone breaks 19.32 in the 200m. that one might stand longer than any record in modern day track and field.

I agree.
That, and some of the women's record from the "jolly ol' 80's" :-\...
Kratochvilova's 1:53.28 in the 800 meters will stand forever. As will probably Marita Koch's 47.60. And the ridiculous shot put record from back then: 22.63m by Lisovskaya (if you get over 20 meters, it's usually a gold medal these days).
Kratochvilova, the she-beast:

On a side note, I can definitely recommend MJ's book Slaying the dragon. Great inspiration for any athlete or for everyday life.

Flo Jo's records on 100 and 200 m will last a while as well i think.
Nobody today is even close today.
-
flojo was juiced outta her mind though... as were most females in the 80's.
-
Yeah flo's records weren't the result of just hard work and training, even her best friend admitted that she had confessed to it before she died, I think.
-
Speaking of sprinters and 200m: Alysson Felix. What a wonderful step she's got.
Flow if I ever saw it.

Damn, she even beats Maria Mutola as far as she beasts go

As crazy as this may sound: I think Mutola may be a life-time natural.
She looks very much like a man. But she has a normal voice.
My guess is that she's a natural transgender person, rare but not unique.
I've heard about these cases before, actually Queen Christina of Sweden (17th century) was a transgender person.
JMO.
-
43.45 not bad...but he's not going to put MJ's record for a while I think. Also LaShawn merit the guy who came second ran under 44 secs and he's only 21, so he might be the person to break that record.

Well, some women naturally have more manly features.
Look at amelie mauresmo, i think it's a bit the same case with mutola. Wider shoulder, narrow waist, lower bodyfat. Kinda ugly manly face.
I don't know the reason, maybe naturally higher test/gh levels. Or more sensitive receptors...

Who knows. Wariner is only 23 as well. If he gains some muscle and explosiveness i can see him taking off a couple of tenths in maybe 1-2 years which would break the record. His running makes me think of allyson felix, both are skinny but with great flow in their steps. Natural talent for running.
Right now i'm interested in the decathlon.
I hope Roman Sebrle can fill out the one missing spot in his record.

Roman Seberle is maybe the greatest athlete of all time, regardless of sport.
9000+ point in the decathlon, that's inhumane.
He was able to get out of the first day slump with that awesome high jump of 2.12.
-
are there any websites with any of the races from these worlds? i've seen barely anything over here.
-
Hmm...
I don't think Sebrle is gonna win this. Not a very good performance by him. 2 more to go and it's between Karpov and Smith. A bit dissapointing.
Saw the long jump final which was quite funny. The italian had an afro-american mother and a german father! Strange times we live in :). Great last jump by saladino to secure the gold for panama though.

Update:
Sebrle won the decathlon due to an outstanding Javelin throw. He really schooled the opponents here.
Smith must be frustrated cause he was better at most events...
Greatness ;D

What was going on in the 1500 though..they were almost walking for the first couple of laps ???. Smith did well though, he was ranked 9th in the world coming into this championship, so he shouldn't be too disappointed with silver.

Well, if you have done nine events in a couple of days, i think you're gonna start conservative on the 1500m. They don't wanna risk collapsing a round early and drop a couple of places in the standings...
