Title: I take back my views on carb ups
Post by: The_Leafy_Bug on August 29, 2007, 05:23:21 PM
Here is a picture i took at my show to test my tan and here is a pic i took 2 days later jumping from 146 to 166 after eating junk food. By the time i clean out my fridge i will probably be 180. I got calipered at 5% but realistically im more like 7 here and at the show i was probably 4-5% as my glutes weren't crisp.

nahhh i got 2nd out of 2 people. I can't really say anything either because the judges were the same people who judge ronnie and all the other top tier pros at the olympia. I can't really make a judgment till i get the video back.

It must suck to bust your ass off for a competition and when you get there only two competitors are in your class.

Im not sure because the scales were so different. They said 150 here at home but i was barely expecting to make the weight class so on the drive down to Little Rock i didn't eat or drink anything all day except a few cookies and i weighed in at 146 so i instantly starting bingining on everything i could to get my weight up. I was probabaly 155-160 during the show though. I was by far leaner then the guy and had multiple people tell me i had it hands down but i guess they went with mass. I was even confident i had it. I had some striations in my glutes although they weren't crisp. The show was a real eye opener. It was almost like a weird dream back stage. I saw Gunter in person and many other site. When Gunter came in he had an aura around him and everyone got quiet. You cannot appreciate the size of these guys until you see them in person. Those of you who think 170 pounds is small.... hahahah you better guess again. These guys were huge. 170 pounds lean is actually really big and i now have more of an appreciation for it. When i went out on stage i wasn't nervous at all. All i remember was the bright stage lights and the black audience and not being able to see anything. It was one of the best experiences of my life and i plan on doing it again next year hopefully as a middle weight.

Yeah it did kind of suck but i would rather have it be one other person then go in unopposed. I could have entered the mens light weight open and won it but only because no one was in it but that would just be stupid. It is all about having fun. I don't even feel like i lost because i think i was leaner and i was the best that i could bring and that to me is a success. Time will tell though when i recieve the dvd in the mail. I might post the prejudging on youtube if im not embarrassed by it.

You did AWESOME, good for you.  Things will only get better from here.

When you say you take back your views on carb ups, does that mean that you now believe carbing up is effective?
 :)

To be honest im not so sure.... I think its good to get a whole bunch of sugar prior to stepping on stage like honey or jam because it helps with vascularity and gives you a sugar high which helps you preform but i don't think any of the carbing up helped me for the actual show. I think carbing up is a slow and long process for me that takes days.

Here is a pic of Gunter at the show looking huge. Unfortunantly i didn't get to meet him. They were messing with him at the Peabody every morning when he came in for breakfast calling him a big wimp hahahah.

It is always a shock to see yourself on video. The show was pretty big since it had the pro fitness show tagged onto it which took FOREVER. It took 5 hours before we could step out on stage. I will be getting the DVD in 4 weeks fully edited so i can jump straight to my class.

Very possible ! I know of guys who've gained that much within 2 days ... hell, most the people I know, that compete, look better the day AFTER the contest than they do THE DAY OF ! Bodybuilding, to a degree, IS A SCIENCE ... an exacting one at that.  ;)

Looking good ! A little small..But you "DO" look good... Nice physique for picking up chicks..In your case dudes . ;)

They can have quite a cosmetic effect on the body cant they.....as far as carbing up takes days.....you should experiment to see how your body responds.  I did best with a friday night through saturday morning carb up.

Mainly egg whites and broccolli the whole cut. Lots of salt. The bad thing now is i can't taste anything so it will take a while to get use to a low salt intake since my water isn't so high. It got to the point where i was so tired i couldn't even drink a whole 3 gallons of water because my body didn't have the energy to process it and it would just make me sick.
