It's true, Fedor has signed a UFC contract. He will be making 1.8 million per fight and is locked in for 4 fights at this point. He is being allowed to compete in sambo competitions, but the Russian co-promotion with UFC is not happening. Fedor's management was upset about that, but Fedor himself insisted on the contract anyway because he wanted to fight where they had the biggest concentration of the best of MMA HW's.

I am not even going to bother posting this to Sherdog, I was flamed way too much last time I broke news and didn't appreciate it. I'm sure this will make it there soon though. The official announcement will be made right before the main event of UFC 75.

yeah...if this holds true no reason Fedor should turn that down. guaranteed 7mil  even if you go 0-4. Let alone go 4-0 and do another deal for even more ridiculous unheard of (MMA) $$$. No brainer if this is the case.

I hope this is true, if it is, I wonder if they would give him a title shot right away and make it another champion vs. champion thing?  The UFC is honoring Dan Henderson's Pride 205lb belt and it will be on the line next weekend, so you would have to think they would honor Fedor's belt.  Which would mean he would have to fight Randy in his first fight (I hope his arm heals quickly), and if he did'nt , would his opponent be getting a shot at the Pride H.W. title?

I bet he will disappoint just like Herring and Crocop did.

I could see Couture beating him

I'd love to see this, but the logical side of me can't see it happening unless Randy cuts him and gets a ref stoppage.  Fedor does have a tendency to bleed.

Those guys have both dissappointed me before they ever got to the UFC.  Fedor hasn't.

I don't buy it. 1,8 million is just too much.
Couture only got 250 k for his victory and randy's name is ten times as big in the USA.

Bringing fedor in could open new markets in Russia and Japan. Furthermore it would prevent other organisations (eg in Japan) from growing fast, so it would be a wise move nonetheless.

I agree, this "news" is just coming from a poster on another site. Does anyone have on official link to the story(sorry if it has already been posted).

What organizations in Japan stand a chance of signing Fedor? Heroes? Don't know how to break this to you but K-1 is a lot bigger than the UFC. The only thing Heroes doesn't have going for it is that the kickboxing is the more popular of the two.

Rumor has it that Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks and HDNet is the one who signed Fedor.  We will see.  If Cuban takes MMA seriously, he could be a threat to Zuffa.

especially if he can pay his undercard fighters better than Dana does.....

that may very well be dana's undoing

Agreed, it wouldn't take much since Dana pays his guys in crackers.. If Cuban offered a minimum of 20k to each fighter you might see a change in tide. The guy is already rich plus if he could swing some good fighters the PPV would pay for the increase in pay...

Cuban should start his own organization! BBFC - Billionaire-Backed Fighting Championships.

Another random thread from another forum, This one by DocAltie

"Ok, there's been a lot of talk about the UFC and Fedor. So I am just going to throw this out there and you all can take it however you want. I got my info from one of Fedor's new sponsors.

Fedor either has been signed over the weekend or will be signed by Friday. He is going to the UFC.

1. Zuffa will have Red Devil fighters in both the UFC and in the WEC in 2008-on.
2. There will be NO co-promotion between the Zuffa and Fedor's management in Russia. (big surpise)
3. Fedor will have limited combat Sambo activity during his 4-fight deal. The UFC will work with him on a schedule of MMA bouts and Sambo matches however MMA must come first.

Money-wise, he is looking at between 8-10million for the entire contract along with two sponorship deals.

The Cuban / MMA deal - No contact has been given to Fedor. Cuban is in the very beginning stages of this. Odds are the soonest we would see a fight card would be Feb 2008. The UFC obviously can and has acted quicker. The UFC also has every major HW tied up.

PS - Mark Hunt is on his way to UFC too folks."

I've alway thought hunt (for the last 5 tears actually) should start a career in the ring (boxing) because for a guy with his size and the strength of his chin and the lack of talent of the heavies these days, he could make a dent in that division quick

Hunt is the biggest waste of potential in MMA. He could go very far, but I get the feeling he does this stuff for fun.

he does tend to seem uninterested at times, even with his limited ground skills he's probably a top 5 -8 as a UFC heavy

Unless Hunt is cutting off a leg, there is no way he makes 265.

I think he can do it, it's just about 20lbs he would have to lose.  Tim Sylvia walks around at about the same weight Hunt does and he makes it.
