Title: MUSCLETECH = bunch of cheap @SSes
Post by: Colossus_1986 on September 05, 2007, 11:59:27 AM
Spoke to the promoter of the Montreal Pro recently [Joe Spinello / Retired IFBB PRO]
and he is so upset at the sponsors this year for the Montreal Pro Classic show.
he didn't want to get into it, but I feel like i need to say this IMO:

Muscletech did not want to step up to the plate to sponsor the show, despite Muscletech
having 4 big names in the show : Cormier, Darrem, Kamali and J. Jackson...
sad...
the only Canadian pro-show we have left and it's probably going to be canceled in 2008 because of the shitty turn-out of 2007.
Muscletech is a Canadian-Based company too....to think all those years when the exchange rate from Canada -to US dollars was insane, that they Sponsored big shows all over North America, now they can't even sponsor a small show like this, in their own country?
what gives?

The supposed "supplement giant" of the industry is full of it if you ask me.

Chris Cormier, is probably going to win the show, and what honor is that having your comeback at a show that doesn't exist anymore? same goes for Johnnie Jackson, his first pro-victory was here at MTL pro last year...how is that gonna look in the Muscletech ads?
Johnnie Jackson - Muscletech Superstar - IFBB PRO - Montreal Pro Winner -2006 *show does not exist anymore.
Chris Cormier - IFBB PRO - comeback victory at a show that doesn't exist...

kind of sucks if you ask me.
The one company that has the money to sponsor any and every show, doesn't do so when 4 of their athletes are going to be competing and likely one of them win the show...how ironic is it, that by them being a key factor in making / breaking the show, that 4 of their athletes, if not more, lose the chance to compete for prize money next year because the show is canceled?

Anyways, just thought i'd get that off my chest, and if anyone in the MTL area
isn't going, and is a "fan" of bodybuilding, you're just like the rest of the retards who say they want a pro-show in MTL, but then back out and don't go because they feel it's too expensive etc....you know who you are.

I've heard some discussion of MuscleTech pulling a Gold's Gym type move and moving away from sponsoring a lot of bodybuilding and instead going for fitness models, mixed martial artists, etc.

Would be the sensible thing to do.

If they could sign a guy like Jeremy Wariner, he'd be worth 10 Jay Cutler's.

Or James Blake or Andy Roddick. Someone with mainstream appeal.

how would you like some clod telling you what to do with your money? if they don't want to spend money on your show, that's their decision; none of your business.

After the IFBB does away with the 'Montreal Pro'...there is a good chance that the PDI will pick up the title of the show and try to run with it.... like they did with the NOC  ::)

The PDI didn't pick up the title of the NOC, that was Wayne's show from the start. As he was the President of the IFBB at the time, it was natural that the IFBB put that show on and not a rival federation.
When Wayne was no longer a part of the IFBB, he took the NOC name with him and started the PDI, in which the NOC would be the flagship contest.
To top all of that off, you realize with the return of Wayne's prostate cancer and the recent letter posted here, it's likely the PDI will now be belly up like all those "fans" wanted it to be?

Exactly. The money is in the mainstream. The general public does not want to look like a bodybuilder.

Actually, I was at a triathalon expo or something like that in Chicago a few weeks ago.  It was free and I wanted to check out if there were any freebies being given away.  There wasn't too much, but BSN had a booth there, giving away endorush, sythna-6 packets, and something else too.  They had copies of their catalogue on the table with all of the covers ripped off until there was a bicicylist ad.  So the ad with the guy riding the bike was the new cover.  It was pretty ghetto, but they must have been desperate to actually rip the cover off of every magazine.

Yup. Do you remember when EAS was big before they were sold?  They even sponsored the Denver Broncos

Same with Met-Rx before it was sold; they sponsored many sporting events like triathlons, WSM, etc...

If I was running Muscletech, I would go where the $$ was.

muscletech probably have the biggest advertising budget of any company involved in bodybuilding. countless shows and magazines probably wouldn't happen if not for their ads. yet they are "cheap asses" for not sponsoring one show.

yeah.

everyone knows bodybuilding shows survive entirely on sponsors, so by them not sponsoring the show, they are aren't helping the situation. They are either helping or not helping the show survive as sponsors, and Muscletech seemingly chose their side.

I'm more pissed than anything because Toronto pro died out for the same reason, now the Montreal PRO (which was where Ronnie Coleman beat Flex Wheeler in 1996, that was some memorable stuff)  is in the same situation...nobody learns from their mistakes... and if it get's canceled next year, there won't be any Pro-Shows in Canada, in my hometown (MTL) etc...

i'll have to drive down to NY to see the NY PRO if i wanna see the pro's compete live seeing as it's technically the closest location.

Sad how Bodybuilding has a tough time survivng.
