Probably. This is the problem with insulin, it's too difficult to dial it in, it's either hit or miss. Sorry Milos, insulin might be good for getting big, but come show day it's bad news. Ask Dennis James, looks great a week out, probably should step on stage then......but the day of a show, he looks like he a week or two out. Insulin!!

I don't know enough about the judging criteria but it seems like some people are always placing lower than they should

Alves being one of those..

Seems like Alves still can't the glutes ripped. But at this point, do they still even look at that for being in "condition"?

The rest of his physique is awesome. He shouldn't be penalized for for soft glutes. If that was the case, then Melvin Anthony would barely crack the top 10 at most shows.

His whole backside didtn have any detail, I think thats why he was penalized, also since he put on so much size this year, he lost some of that amazing taper he used to have.

Same problem as Ruhl, struggles getting his backside (hams, glutes and entire back) in good condition. From the front hard to beat, but when they turn around, its a different story.

Yeah Cormier even though not close to his best conditioning still looked better overall from the back yet got 4th.

Then explain to me, why Milos never seemed to have too much trouble "dialing it in." ::)

According to Graphic Muscle, Alves turned pro in or around '03. Four years ago, and he's been with Milos for how long? He still can't dial it in after how much time?
My underlying point in the above statement...

Maybe it's not just the 'slin....

Troy did turn pro at the USA in '03 and has qualified every year.

The ham/glute and low back are full of water so 6th is fair. From the front, he is top two but that shot up top says it all. You can see they are almost dialed in but blured with water. If his hams had a few more lines and low back not as watery, he could have been top three.

I'm a big Alves fan but that pic clearly shows why he didn't place higher.

Conditioning from the rear has always been his weakness.

Look closely at Milos' conditioning, best symmetry in the game but wasn't exactly shredded. A little smooth in most contest shots.

Yes, he forgot to hike his speedo up between his cheeks. How do you think Ronnie won 8 Olympias?  ::)

Ronnie won with total conditioning, head to toe, front to back.... Not 90% of his body...all this at oh, something like 275 lbs when he was at his all time best.

BB criteria is based on total conditioning, no water in ass, back, glutes...I am a huge fan of Troys but he was not quite ready..lets hope he tightens it all up for Atlantic City!

There's more ripped asses now than before insulin became really popular. Insulin sure hasn't hurt Ronnie's ass striations. Insulin isn't that guys problem per se, he just needs to lose more bodyfat which is possible even with insulin use. Genetics play a role as well as some simply can't achieve it no matter what. That's where he stores his stubborn bodyfat.

I was very disappointed by the pics I saw of troy from this past weekend.  He was bigger but had very little detail, the pics I saw from the night before...he looked great, ripped..hard, just great.  The show pics he looked washed out or something plus his skin color looked terrible to me, he was lighter than I am-or so it seemed and he's a brother.....not good.  I still hope this guy really puts it together once and nails it but....I don't know.

Whats the point of having a ripped ass if everything else is relatively smooth?

If you look in Dorians book Blood and guts, you will see a set of photos of him taken 4 weeks out from a show, and a few days before a show, and the one thing you will notice is the pics of him from the front show the same kind of condition. The pics of him from behind are the ones where you see an improvement in condition.People always assume they are in shape when the abs are tight, but in reality thats the condition you need to be in with a month to go.

Actually it's called a self fulfilling prophecy.  Dennis constantly tells himself he will come in off (REF: BFTO 2002, among others) and he always does come in off.  He mentally sets himself up for disappointment and consistently achieves what his mind already believes.  Also, gym pictures are really different from stage pictures.
