Title: CLA: is it worth all the hype?
Post by: Deicide on September 09, 2007, 09:27:03 PM
As today is the first day of a 6 month diet (at least) I was curious to see if anyone has any experience with CLA for fat loss. Is it actually effective and can it speed up the fat loss process. Most of all: is it worth the expensive price?! Cheers, all...

Works well for me... I use 4g every morning. Since starting Im keeping pretty lean with out trying. It has taken some time though to see the effect about 2-3 months.

Try it. If it works then great for you.

No.  PERHAPS it may help if you're already lean to get rid of that last bit, but not for trying to get there.  Effective quantities have to be taken at too high of a dose and for too long to be worth the price.  Cardio and diet are your best allies at this point.

I read that it's actually best to use it during a bulk.
I'll get back to this thread with more info.

I used it for a few months to help get my HDL and LDL levels back in balance.
As far as loosing weight or just seeing a change in body composition I never saw anything.
It did help mildly with my cholesterol levels though

Put it in the "can't hurt" category.

Go pick up the October issue of Muscle & Developement...there were several article with posted studies that found it effects are minimal for fat loss.

Waste of money IMO

i would suggest that everyone stay away from CLA, it has many many negative sides effects that are potentially very dangerous. this fat shouldnt be used, especially not for fat loss.

every study in humans has shown increased insulin resistance, which as you know is not what you want for fatloss or for muscle gain. its also not found in the diet at doses people are recommending, and most of the benefits are from rodent studies which due to the mechanism are really nil.

its proven to greatly increase insulin resistence.

it also can have some negative effects on genetic machinery. it also shows really no benefit at all in human studies that are conducted properly. with so many healthy fats that can aid a bodybuilder this should really be the last one. for fat loss i would recommend fish oil and sesamin for PPAR agonism. they both have good anti inflammatory effect which would help recovery greatly. sesamin seems to be good on the old liver and kidneys too, with renal and hepaprotective properties, another good thing for bodybuilders ;D
